  • Hand2mind Making Math Meaningful

    Funded Feb 25, 2021

Due to Covid-19, our students are not able to share math manipulatives in our classroom. This has drastically changed our lessons. With your donations we are able to keep learning fun by giving each child a Hand2Mind Set to learn and test their learning.

We were also able to allow 2 students to keep a set from the Hand2Mind Math Kit at home to practice skills and prevent regression. We have begun practice mathematical skills in a certain amount of time and then let the students race. Your donations have really made a difference in boosting student engagement and learning during math time.

These manipulatives have provided our self contained students with a hands-on experiences to be remembered for years to come. Thank you so much for your donation to help students to grasp concepts and explain their thinking using concrete objects.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. B.

  • Hand2mind Making Literacy Meaningful

    Funded Dec 1, 2020

Due to Covid-19, our students are not able to share literacy manipulatives in our classroom. This has drastically changed our lessons. With your donations we are able to keep learning fun by giving each child a Hand2Mind Set to learn and test their learning.

  • Making Math Magical with Manipulatives

    Funded Sep 8, 2020

Due to Covid-19, our students are not able to share math manipulatives in our classroom. This has drastically changed our lessons. With your donations we are able to keep learning fun by giving each child a mini set of manipulatives. We were also able to allow students to keep a set of manipulatives as home if they needed them. We have begun to count the number of days we have been at school with the pocket chart as well as demonstrate this number in forms of base ten to make the concept relative and fun. With the bingo chips we have been able to play a variety of games including teaching pattern recognition, multiplication, arrays, and more. Your donations have really made a difference in boosting student engagement and learning during math time. These manipulatives have provided our self contained students with a hands-on experiences to be remembered for years to come. Thank you so much for your donation to help students to grasp concepts and explain their thinking using concrete objects.”

  • Many Many Manipulatives

    Funded Jul 10, 2020

We are so appreciative for your generous donation. We were able to create many learning packets to be sent home with the students. In these packets we wanted to make sure that were not just doing activities in worksheets, but really understanding the material at hand. We were able to get centimeter cubes to teach area and perimeter, play money to play store with the scholars online, word family flash cards and activities to increase their reading awareness and comprehension, and we are using the sight word games to play games on Fridays and build their fluency levels. Even though school looks a lot different this year, we are making it work and the students are really enjoying the hands on activities for "homework" as well as classwork. I think this may be a thing that will continue to be in place long after we return to school. Thank you so much for your donation. Our self-contained students may be "different" but they truly love to learn. Thank you for helping them do so.”

  • Increasing the Possibilities for Exceptional Education Students

    Funded Jun 26, 2020

Because of your donations, my assistant and I are able to put our self-contained students in small groups while other students to work independently. With the printer, ink, and laminator we have found so many great resources for independent stations and we are able to print some of them in color to really capture our students' attention. Being that we are learning virtually, we have tried to keep our classroom as normal as possible. We have been able to print activities and games, send home weekly newsletters, show pictures of students and their work, create small group manipulatives, and come up with independent work station (math and literacy) activities that are tailored to students needs, and even send home report cards.

The most exciting things for our students are the games that we have been able to play. Recently we played a game where students learned to tell time and "raised to the clock" to win on a printable board game.

One of our autistic students absolutely loves computers. He has been able to learn how to create brochures with a particular topic at hand and he loves when we are able to print them and send them home for his grandmother to see. COVID-19 has made learning look a lot differently this year, but with your donations we are able to ensure it is still fun! We thank you so much!”

  • We Are Hooked on Phonics!

    Funded May 20, 2020

Thank you so much for donating us a gift card to use Teachers Pay Teachers to buy worksheets, workbooks, and learning activities to support remote learning! This has allowed me to provide exciting and worthwhile lessons for my students.

The students have been very engaged as they learn various things such as reading comprehension, letter sounds, addition and subtraction, how to use a calculator, and more. The possibilities are nearly endless when using Teachers Pay Teachers. My students are benefiting from having choices in what and how they are learning the material. Thank you very much.”

  • Zooming Into Virtual Learning

    Funded May 17, 2020

Thank you so much for donating a Ideapad laptop to our classroom! A laptop is essential for learning in the 21st century. My students have started their distance learning lessons with the usage of this laptop. We have been able to practice reading, mathematics, science, as well as all subjects by doing Zoom lessons, playing games, and visiting websites that can support them in all areas.

I have also seen an increase in engagement by them being able to see and use lots of visuals to expand their learning. Thank you very much for your help with getting us a laptop. This has made remote learning a breeze! My students are very grateful!”

  • Exceptional Ed Likes to Move It, Move It!

    Funded Sep 4, 2019

My students love their new equipment! When they saw the jump ropes come in the mail, they said, "I haven't seen these in sooo long! Are these just for us?" We took the scholars outside and practiced math facts with our jump ropes. I asked them various math facts such as what is 2 + 3 and depending on the answer, they would have to jump that many times. This was a hit with them and it helped to bridge adaptive P.E. as well as math.

For our next step, we intend to incorporate yoga in the classroom. We have three students with behavioral problems. We believe exposing these students to yoga could help them develop self-calming strategies and help them cope with life more. It is my hope that with these materials we continue to give our extra special students more opportunities to use their muscles as well as their brain while in physical education. I love to see how excited they are that they now have materials just for them to enjoy and play in the gym.

These materials will be enjoyed for many years to come. They help us build curiosity, creativity, and collaboration in the physical education setting. We are so thankful for you gracious donation. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you.”

  • Shark Tank! Revolutionizing Exceptional Education Through Financial Literacy

    Funded May 29, 2019

Counting money is a critical functional math skill that requires patience, repetition, and lots of hands-on activities to help students learn. Our students were so excited when they saw and used the new resources. Last year we learned to count money, but it was often with worksheets. With these materials, we started to count money with our money manipulatives.

Students loved waving the money around and counting various amounts they had over and over. Currently we have assigned price amounts to many things within the classroom. Students have to "pay" for materials by using the money manipulatives.

This activity is very believable and hands-on for students to learn.

Our next steps are to continue learning about money and creative ways to make money. Hopefully, we can start creating mini businesses and presenting our ideas within class. This will help to improve financial literacy skills, entrepreneurship, and collaboration skills. Thank you so much for adding to our classroom.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. B.

  • Diversity: Playing To Learn And Learning To Play

    Funded May 28, 2019

Thank you for donating to our classroom. The students were so amazed by their puppets and games to add to our diversity center in out classroom. The Diversity Puppets gave us a great opportunity to start the conversation about understanding and appreciating the diverse population of our country. Recently we talked about equity for all races and treating all people with kindness and respect despite their appearance. Your donation made the message we were trying to convey more believable and definitely relatable. Thank you so much for making our classroom more engaging and fun!”

My school is located in a poverty stricken area within the heart of Mississippi. The students are lovable, rambunctious, and bright, but many slide between the cracks because of the lack of resources the school has to engage these students. The students are always appreciative of new materials and ideas, but they are in need of more resources and lab activities to spark their lifelong learning for the sciences and encourage them to apply critical thinking skills to real world and biological problems.
