I am a teacher who loves to use technology EVERY day. Unfortunately, technology resources are sometimes hard to come by in my school. These iPads will form part of a class set and will help me accomplish several goals in my classroom: 1) Content-Based Review – There are already several excellent content-based applications and websites that my school uses to allow students to practice reading, math, social studies, and science. These iPads will help ensure my students have continuous access to these programs such as Quia, Quizizz, Kahoot, IXL, Worldbook Online, PBS Kids, and Accelerated Reader. 2) Self-Sufficiency – I have several 4th graders who are struggling readers. Several of the learning applications I plan to utilize on these iPads provide a “read-to” function that helps make these students more self-sufficient when reviewing previously taught material. 3) Research – I would like to incorporate more research-based projects into my classroom. Having these iPads in my classroom will ensure that I always have devices available for students to conduct research necessary for these projects. 4) Technology Exposure – In today's fast moving world, I believe that it is important for our kids to have a depth of experience using technology. Since many of my students are from low-income households, their exposure to technology may be limited. My goal is to give these students as much positive technological exposure as possible. 5) Student Engagement and Teamwork – I have some students who struggle greatly with traditional learning and study methods. However, when you place an iPad in their hands you can see the excitement in their eyes. They become more eager to learn the content. This is particularly true when you add an element of competition or teamwork as I often do.
