Story Time With Friends
Funded Jul 11, 2016I was so thrilled to return to school and find boxes of brand new books and audio CDs waiting for me and my new students! What a way to start the new school year.
We are developing a life long love of reading in kindergarten. Children are engaging in various types of reading and literacy activities throughout the day. The listening center is a favorite literacy activity in my classroom. The children love to hear the characters come alive through the book recordings. We now have some of our favorite authors and books to listen to and enjoy.
Thanks again for contributing to my class and helping to foster a love of reading!”

Mrs. Mikell
Ready, Set, Read!
Funded Jun 28, 2016Wow! How exciting to start a new school year with brand new materials for my students. My students never knew books could be so BIG! Their eyes light up when we take a big book out to read together. They love to read along.
It's so wonderful to see them carryover the reading skills we teach using pocket chart stories. Our students have already learned many high frequency words. They love to play teacher and use a pointer to read the pocket chart stories.
We can't wait to extend these activities as we introduce more literacy activities for the children to explore. Thanks again for your generous donations!”

Mrs. Mikell
Keep Calm and Play
Funded Jul 29, 2015It's hard to believe we're on our way to a brand new school year. We've only had four days of school so far but we've had lots of excitement. Students are getting to know the routines of kindergarten and we're fostering a love of school.
Your donation of high quality learning toys have made a great impact. The students look forward to the end of each day when they can spend time at our social and play centers. The building toys that you donated allow them to have fun with each other and learn to experiment and design at the same time. They especially love the new K'Nex vehicle set. Students love using the design cards to design cards or just using their own imaginations to design and build their own vehicle.
We look forward to a great year of learning to play cooperatively, to build and to design with our new building toys.”

Play and Learn with Play Doh!
Funded Dec 10, 2014We opened our packages today. The students were so thrilled to see all the play-doh and the play-doh tools.
We love that we can provide the students with hands-On tools for learning. We used the play-doh today during play time. The students played cooperatively exploring and creating.
We look forward to putting the play-doh to use during out literacy centers so that we can use them with our tactile learners in teaching letter recognition.
Children have so much fun with hands on learning. We love making learning fun! Thanks for supporting us in our classroom!
Thanks again!!!”

Funded Nov 28, 2012The books arrived just a few short days ago. The students were so excited to open the boxes and boxes of books. We have a very limited numbered of leveled readers available for independent reading. It is so wonderful to be able to offer a diversity of books at a range of levels to suit all of our students. We even have enough to share with the other classes that we are sharing space with in our temporary classroom (the library). The students are so excited to have books to bring home to "show off" their reading skills to their parents.
We still do not know when we'll return to our home school but we look forward to moving our new library with us too. Thank you for overwhelming generosity.”

Sandy Relief - Portable Classroom Easel
Funded Nov 13, 2012Thank you for your amazing and generous donation. This portable easel was a sight for sore eyes. We quickly assembled it and put it right to use. The easel is serving four classrooms who are sharing the library at our host school. We are able to use the easel to conduct shared reading lesson and other mini lessons in a corner in the hallway.
The teachers and students at my school are so humbled by the support and donations that we have received from donors all over the United States. It is thanks to people like you that we can recover and rebuild our communities and schools.”

Filling Our School Tool Box
Funded Nov 11, 2012Thank you for your generous donation! Your donation could not have come at a better time. Our school was recently relocated due to severe damages at our school caused by Hurricane Sandy. Many Students returned to school after suffering traumatic experiences at home. We had extreme storm surges and coastal flooding in our area.
These tools arrived at our new host school just a few days after we relocated. My students are anxious children on typical day and the changes in routines and school setting have made everyday learning and even greater challenge. These sensory tools have been a great resource in helping students self regulate.
Thanks again for providing these sensory tools.”

Feeding our Sensory Diet
Funded Sep 7, 2012Thank you so much for your generous donation. My students were thrilled to open our packages of "school tools". Before introducing our new sensory tools we read a book "Arnie and His School Tools: Simple Sensory Solutions That Build Success" to help introduce all of our students to the us of sensory tools in the classroom. Both my ASD students and my neurotypical students put the tools to use right away.
We do a lot of carpet work and these weighted pillows are a great tool to help children self regulate and attend to lessons and classroom activities.”
