Tap It, Map It, Graph It!
Funded Dec 9, 2024What a wonderful way to kick off the new year! I cannot thank you enough for your generous donation to our classroom project. The students were absolutely thrilled when we unveiled our new Tap It, Map It, Write It phonics boards!
These boards have already become an essential part of our phonics block. They are a fantastic tool for helping students isolate sounds and learn how to spell with confidence. This week, we focused on adding the suffix -s to base words, and next week, we'll dive into mapping and writing words with the /ng/ sound—like sang, ring, and long.
One delightful surprise was discovering that the dry-erase markers are magnetic and stick to the boards!
Your support has made this possible, and we are deeply grateful. These tools are helping my students build foundational skills that will last a lifetime. Thank you for making a difference in our classroom!”

Mrs. Mikell
Everybody Reads
Funded Sep 19, 2023I apologize for the delay in writing to express our gratitude. We have been very busy in Kindergarten! We have slowly introduced these new materials over the last few weeks. Students love being introduced to new manipulatives and tools that support their learning.
We have been focusing more than ever on letter sounds and sound production in our phonics, reading and writing instruction. The kids love looking at their mouth and noticing what their mouth is doing when producing different sounds.
Our favorite are all the tools is the Science of Reading Essentials Tool Kit. This tool kit is full of so many, fun and engaging manipulatives that allow students to manipulate sounds, build words, read words and write words.”

Funded Mar 30, 2023A very belated thank you!! Through your generous donations, we received almost 100 beautiful, colorful and engaging decodable readers for our kindergarten students. They could not have arrived at a better time during the school year. Students were just starting to read and their confidence grew tremendously as we were able to offer them books that targeted the skills they were learning in the classroom. They were able to read them at school and then bring them home to share with their families! Thank you again, for supporting our youngest learners in developing a love of reading!!!”

Back to the Basics
Funded Oct 25, 2022We are so thrilled to have new basic supplies to replenish our old our supplies. The students were super excited to each get a brand new felt tip pen yesterday for writing workshop. It made them feel so special to be writing with a pen!! It motivated them to write even more! We are now able to print color copies of visual schedules, behavior charts and phonics materials. Who doesn't love a little color?? And the room is so much quieter now that students can plug earbuds into the laptops! Thanks again for supporting our class!!!”

Going Full STEAM Ahead!
Funded Sep 29, 2022My students were so excited when all of our packages of STEAM materials arrived. The funding from this project has allowed us to open a variety STEAM activities. The students are having so much fun building and creating together. They view it as play time because they are having so much fun. We are amazed at the objects they have designed independently and through teamwork. Some students love to create and make their own designs while other students follow the visual instructions to construct. We even had a student make us a cell phone and invite us to place a call!
Thank you again for bringing such joy to our classroom and for helping us build a community of eager, motivated learners!”

Space to Self Regulate
Funded Nov 30, 2021Our students are so thrilled with the new self-regulations tools that have been added to our classroom thanks to your generous donations! Patrick, our weighted lap dog, loves to hang out in our calm corner. The children love to put him on their lap and talk to him while they are there. Our students named the weighted reptile, Fraggle! Students like to take Fraggle to their desk to help them stay seated and calm. I think the favorite new tools are the bouncy band chair cushions that turn chairs into wobble chairs. We have seen a great improvement in attending and focus with these new supports.”

Funded Sep 14, 2021Thank you for your generous donations. We are so grateful for the addition of a color printer to our classroom. We have enough ink that should last us the whole year!
Having a color printer and scanner allows us to create individualized colorful materials for our students. We have created colorful mood meters that we use each day to support our social emotional learning. Students love having their own colorful alphabet charts for name study. Our favorite new addition is our "Wall of Fame" where we display pictures of students in the hallway that have earned a spot through our PBIS (positive behavior interventions and supports) program!”

Funded Aug 24, 2021My students are loving the new culturally diverse books that we received through our DonorsChoose projects. I love the fact that students are reading books with diverse characters and learning about various cultures through literature. Most of the books were written by diverse authors as well. It was so much fun starting the school year with the "King of Kindergarten". We have proclaimed ourselves as kings and queens! We identified with Danbi as she navigated her first days of school not speaking any English and not knowing how to fit in! We are looking forward to reading the rest of the books as the school year continues!”

Funded Jul 25, 2020It is so wonderful to have such generous donors especially during these challenging times. My students are fortunate enough to be some of the very few students in New York City who get to come for in person learning everyday! We have very strict guidelines to follow that mandate we keep materials separate and personalized. Thanks to your generous donations, I am able to provide each student with their own personal phonics materials. They love working with the magnetic boards and letters! If at anytime, we need to move to fully remote learning, these materials can go home with the”

Funded Mar 2, 2020Thanks to your generous donations we have been able to put more books in the hands of my students to read at school and at home. Students are falling in love with the character book sets. They are getting to know Rusty the Robot and Marshmallow the Pony.
Students are so excited to have new chapter books! First graders feel so grown up with they get their hands on the first chapter book.
We were fortunate enough to send kids home with bags full of books to keep them engaged in real books during remote learning. We could not have done this if we did not receive so many new books through Donorschoose!”
