Books...More Than Just For Entertainment
Funded Oct 2, 2021With the struggles that teachers and students have been facing these past couple of years, there are no words that could possibly describe how we felt when we learned that our project was fully funded. As a 4th grade ELA and Math teacher, I always seek ways to engage my students into learning and enrich skills that they already understand. This mission has been possible with YOUR help! Each day, my students look forward to utilizing tools that will enhance their academic growth.
With the added books to our library, my students have been able to apply various standards (figurative language, character traits, compare and contrast, theme, problem and solution, inferences, etc.) that have been discussed in class during our book study (No Talking, Clean Getaway, How Tia Lola Came To Visit, etc.). This has assisted in retaining comprehension skills, expanding their vocabulary and obtaining that higher order thinking that is necessary in today's rigorous education.
Whether they are silent reading, reading with a buddy or reading in a group, my students seem to be enjoying the content and make references throughout the day whenever possible.
However, that is not all. My students were also fortunate enough to have their own white dry-erase boards, markers and cleaning rags. This has created miracles during our mathematics time. Something about writing with markers makes my students more interested and excited. Needless to say, they are rising not only in reading but in mathematics as well.
On the behalf of my students, I would like to thank you for the smiles that have been brought to our room whenever we continue to expand our literacy and mathematics knowledge. We are never ending learners, and your cooperation has truly supported that fact!”
With gratitude,
Ms. Mejia

Funded Oct 31, 2018Words can truly NOT express the joy my students and I experienced when we learned that our project had been funded. We knew the impact these laptops, computer mice and headphones would create in the classroom. For this, on behalf of my students, I would like to thank you for this breathtaking action.
Each of my 58 students have had the opportunity to use and become more familiar with the technology required in order to succeed as a student in this modern world. When we are scheduled to get in our small groups (differentiated instruction), my students can now effectively continue to enrich their education while having hands-on technology practice. Many of them even forget that learning is still taking place.
As of today, my students and I continue to appreciate these wonderful additions to our classroom and fully take advantage of the doors you have provided for each one of us on a daily basis. Without a doubt, every time I charge a laptop, my students connect their headphones/mouse and begin to use the laptop, YOU are unquestionably in OUR minds.”
With gratitude,
Ms. Mejia

Funded Dec 20, 2016Foremost, I would like to personally thank you for funding my project of having laptops in the classroom. Without a doubt, my students were delighted and enjoyed using them each day.
Daily, my students were able to benefit from the i-ready program (a personalized program that aids in the growth of fundamental grade-level skills). With the constant practice of the lessons, over 80% of my students demonstrated proficiency in their grade level at our final diagnostic test. Clearly, the laptops made a tremendous growth in my students overall learning experience this year.
Since these are durable materials and my students have handled them with care, we all know they can easily be used next year in order to create the same academic impact.
On behalf of my students and myself, I would like to again thank you for aiding in this project and allowing my students the technological advancement required in this time of learning. We all enjoyed the laptops and wireless mice and definitely used it to our advantage in our learning journey.”
With gratitude,
Ms. Mejia
