A Notebook for Makers
Funded Jul 12, 2016This new notebook computer is just what the doctor ordered! We are on our way exploring the world of digital media. Already we have recorded over fifty sound clips using Audacity. We have imported audio on top of our voices and explored effects like fade in, fade out, amplify, and echo. We have cut and time shifted waveforms as we learn the lingo of the industry including audio formats and amplitude.
Our next project is going to be to create ads for our favorite musicians, bands, and groups while learning how to compress vocal tracks, adjust track volumes, and much more. My students are really excited and we cannot thank you enough!”

Funded Sep 16, 2016These little bots are amazing! They can follow tracks we draw on paper. They have motorized heads with ultrasonic distance senors. They can avoid edges, solve mazes, avoid walls, and navigate the classroom. We are especially excited about having these little guys retrieve objects, follow or hide from light sources, and even drawing shapes! My students are really excited to learn about the world of robotics and explore some of the senors that are all around them in the modern world. These bots provide an awesome intersect of hardware and software in an engaging and stimulating package.

Digital Editing for Success!

Funded Mar 9, 2016This bass trombone is exactly what the band needs! We are trying to expand our offering and expand our sound. We have a mix of brass instruments including trumpets, trombones, one aging French horn, and one tuba that is rough around the edges. A bass trombone really adds to our sound! As a trombonist for over twenty years, I know a quality instrument when I play one and this is it! Your generous gift shows your dedication for music and we are so grateful! A Laptop for Coding
Funded Mar 9, 2016It means so much to me and my classmates that you donated to my classroom! Seeing the smiling faces of my fellow students when they saw our new laptop donated to us really felt awesome! I can't wait for me and my classmates get down and dirty with some extreme coding! In the Bronx, It's hard finding great laptops to work on writing code with without paying a ton of money which many of us do not have. But to know that there are people out there willing to donate this stuff to us really means a lot! Coding helped me really discover some skills I didn't even know I have. The more I practiced it, the more invested I became with it. This school year alone I have gotten to create a cartoon with a program called Scratch, learn about the basics of CSS and even made a small little webpage from scratch. Learning code has taught me some very valuable skills that I'm positive will become very useful later in life. I can't wait to let my creativity flow while using our class's new laptop and unleash an array of possibilities. Once again, thank you so very much for donating to our class. You guys are awesome!”

Learn and Play with Makerbot PLA!
Funded Jun 3, 2015You guys are awesome! Your generous donations are awesome! And the Makerbot Filament we just received is super awesome! We now have white, gray, dark blue, army green, brown, and the very cool glow-in-the-dark! In computer science this year we will delve into some basic computer aided design using the powerful open-source Blender software coupled with our Makerbot Replicator 2! Soon it will be only our imaginations that limit our ability and creativity in my classroom. I really want to help create engineers, inventors, creators, and makers for the future so they can all design really cool stuff for me when I'm old!”

Funded Sep 2, 2015These tools are amazing! These are just what my classroom needs! The toolkit will help us to repair laptops, projectors, switches, headphones, and much more! The Blu-ray ROM drive will enable us to backup work and archive data in a safe a reliable way. We will use the eSATA bracket to attach hard drives for analysis, repair, data recovery, and much more! The power strip is going in our computer cart to give us safe and reliable power to recharge our laptops! We will use this new Ethernet switch to re-image computers and keep the learning alive!
