I See Myself Here, Play
Funded Feb 12, 2025We are deeply grateful for your generous support of our "I See Myself Here, Play!" project. Thanks to your kindness, we were able to purchase multicultural dolls, a large dollhouse that allows multiple children to play together, and a camper van—items that will have a lasting impact on our students' social-emotional development and playtime experiences.
Your donation has helped create an inclusive and engaging environment where children can see themselves represented, connect with one another, and explore diverse perspectives through play. The new toys will enable them to build empathy, cooperation, and a sense of belonging, all of which are essential to their growth.

Funded Jan 28, 2025Thank you for making our SEL+STEM, Experiential Learning is a work of heART project happen!
The STEM kits have provided our students with the opportunity to not only develop their critical thinking and problem-solving skills but also to practice vital life skills such as frustration tolerance, empathy, and compassion. As they work through challenges, they are learning to persevere, even when faced with setbacks, and to support one another in moments of frustration. I have watched students shed tears of frustration only to see other students come alongside them with patience, support and words of encouragement. These moments are where their personal growth truly shines, and it's all possible because of your kindness.
Thanks to your donation, our students are not just learning science, technology, engineering, and math – they are learning perseverance, teamwork, and resilience. They are growing as individuals, and these lessons will stay with them long after they finish the STEM kits.

The Gift of Time!
Funded Jan 30, 2025THANK YOU!!!! Thanks to your support, we were able to purchase 2 classroom clocks, 5 alarm clocks, and 2 keychain watches that are already making a remarkable difference for our students and in the school counseling room we share.
Time management is an essential skill that plays a crucial role in helping students succeed—not just in school, but throughout their lives. With the classroom clocks and keychain watches, students are practicing strategies to manage their time more effectively. Now no matter where you are in the school counseling room, you can always clearly see what time it is! This is so important as students transition from lunch with Mrs. Lyke to recess, or from recess workshops (creating Perler Bead pets, friendship bracelets or building STEM kits - all funded through Donors Choose) back to class.
We have already distributed one of the alarm clocks to a student who needs a bit of extra support waking up to get to school on time. The clock is set and so is the alarm, so this tool is ready to rock and roll! Your gift is empowering this kiddo to take charge of their time, a lesson that will serve them well beyond elementary school years.

Help Us Spruce Up the Clothing Closet!
Funded Dec 3, 2024On behalf of everyone at KES, I want to express our deepest gratitude for your generous contribution to our Sprucing Up the Clothing Closet project. Thanks to your support, we were able to transform a simple utility closet into a beautiful, welcoming clothing boutique open to all students.
The addition of the tapestries, lights, mirrors, and decorative decals purchased through this Donors Choose project, we were able to acquire quality shelves, bins and racks through a grant from the Alaska Community Foundation. These efforts have truly brought this space to life - utility closet no more, this is now our KES Boutique! It takes a village and your donation has made this possible - we are so grateful.
Thank you for making a tangible difference in the lives of so many students. When a student's brain feels safe, warm and comfortable, they are available to learn. Thank you for helping us ensure our students look and feel their best so they can show up, prepared to learn, every single day!”

Thanks to your kindness and support, we've been able to expand our school counseling programming and activities and create fun Perler Pets and memories together.
Our Perler Pet crafting sessions have been heartwarming! While we are creating, we also play games like 20 questions. It is powerful to see kids engaged and enjoying themselves, laughing while fostering creativity and positive peer connections. Beyond just crafting, the beading projects have become a catalyst for meaningful interactions and joyful moments.

Klatt Care Closet
Funded Aug 2, 2023Thank you for your generosity and support. The Klatt Care Closet has been a priceless addition to the Tier 1 supports we are able to offer to ALL students here at Klatt Elementary.
Stocked with socks and toothbrushes, underwear, deodorant and bar soap as well as positive affirmation stickers and journals to give students an outlet, the Care Closet has served dozens of our students already this school year. Students stop by when they are in need of period products or to grab a chapstick as the weather here in Alaska becomes colder and drier with winter approaching. Our Structured Learning Classroom students have benefited from this project as well, and many more students will continue to access it throughout the rest of the year to come.
