  • Chrome Plated!

    Funded Dec 13, 2012

My students have been working with their new Chromebooks for a couple of weeks and the students LOVE this technology.

My students use these sleek little computers to access our on-line math and reading programs. Not only are my kids learning whenever they log in, but I can use the Chromebooks as an incentive for the students to complete their other required work! My students also use the Chromebooks to complete research on their inquiry projects, including inquiry into energy resources, alternative energy, and causes of immigration.

We love having these tools in our classroom. The students use them every day - almost every hour - and we are so grateful that you have supported us with this technology.

Thank you again for your generous gift.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Gormley

  • Idea Organizers!

    Funded Sep 5, 2012

Thank you for your generous gift to our classroom! The book bins and chart paper have contributed to the order and efficiency of our fourth grade learning.

Before your gift, our books were stored in plastic wire baskets that were at least 5 years old. The plastic was broken and the books did not stand up in a way that allowed the students easily to access their favorite reading materials. Now, our beautiful blue book tubs are sturdy and are the perfect size to organize our library. The students love them!

You also donated chart paper! In our classroom, chart paper is used daily to hold our thoughts and our learning. We really appreciate your contribution of this basic resource.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Gormley

  • Instant Feedback!

    Funded Jul 9, 2012

Thank you for your generous donation of funds to my Donors Choose document camera project. My students and I already have begun to expand our classroom possibilities with this wonderful technology.

With a document camera, I can place any object in front of the camera and instantly project the object for my students to see. Today, I was able explicitly to demonstrate for the students how to construct reading notebooks by projecting my own notebook for them to see. It saves so much time and is so clear to them when they can look on and see my example! I also drafted a short writing piece, talking the students through my thinking process as they watched my draft appear in front of them on the screen. I can put math blocks right under the camera to show a concrete demonstration of decimals to all 27 students at one time. I can project the pages of a book as I read, so that we are all reading the pages together. This instrument is amazing, engaging, exciting, and effective to support instruction.

Thank you for the materials you provided to us and thank you, too, for the support you have shown for our community and our kids. Your gift is appreciated and will be used every day in my classroom.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Gormley

  • We Need to Chill!

    Funded Apr 11, 2012

We have our portable air conditioner up and operating and I have been so thankful for it, even during the cooler-than-it-will-be-in-August month of May. Thank you, thank you for your gift to our classroom.

Here is what a small air conditioner has done for us already: we can work in relative quiet, without 5 fans blowing; we can stay comfortable, even when the temperature outside exceeds 90 degrees, as it has done this spring; we can work in our regular seats, rather than move closer to fans plugged in to the only two electrical outlets in our room. The students may not even have noticed the complete impact of the air cooler, but I have, because your gift has allowed normal classroom procedures to remain in place despite outdoor temperature variations. I am absolutely thrilled.

Thank you again for your gift to our school and to its students. You will be in my thoughts every time I turn on that fantastic cooler!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Gormley

  • Scanner for Success

    Funded Oct 7, 2011

Thank you for your generous donation to our classroom! I am touched by your support for my students. Our new printer/scanner enhances our learning in so many ways.

We scan documents and project them immediately on our Promethean board. Students become excited and engaged when they work on their own and their classmates' drafts for revision and editing work. The scanner also allows for quick and easy projection of print samples such as movie tickets, trading cards, news articles, and maps. Students in 4th grade learn to read a variety of texts!

The printer has inspired my students to great things as they design presentations for their units of inquiry. Students love to print illustrations, graphs, and other resource materials to preserve their learning.

A printer/scanner in the classroom makes life more efficient and magnifies the impact of our computers and Promethean board. Thank you for this valuable contribution to the students in my classroom.

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Gormley
