Techno Update
Funded Nov 28, 2018Thank you for your generous contributions to my project "Techno Update". Your gift has made an enormous impact on our classroom.
In schools, we use technology as a resource in many ways. Students work on research projects, accessing school-approved sites. They practice spelling and typing. To enhance their understanding of a text, they listen to audio books, or listen to a book while reading the paper copy of the book. They take computerized assessments. They work on assignments I make through Google Classroom.
Technology in school is part of our life and it is so important to have the right equipment. Through your gift, we have purchased two Chromebooks and several sets of headphones.
Thank you again for making a difference!”

Ms. Gormley
Book 'Em!
Funded Nov 8, 2017Thank you for your generous donations to this project. My students love to have new books!
These books make reading fun for ALL students by providing new, shiny books with engaging topics for fourth grade readers. These topics might include friendship issues, growing up challenges, and family problems - all of these subjects are critically interesting and important for young students who are growing up and who are making their own decisions about who they are, or who they want to be.
The books we were able to purchase with this project included several easier-to-read series and also several graphic novels. These books in particular appeal to readers who might have more difficulty reading but who still want to read "chapter books" and the very cool graphic novels that everyone else is reading. Thank you for your support for those readers!
Please know that your gift was met with great excitement and that ALL of these books have been in students' hands ever since they arrived. We appreciate you!”

Ms. Gormley
Spring (Chrome) Green!
Funded Mar 30, 2017My students are excited to have enough Chromebooks so that this technology is completely accessible for every student in our class. This truly makes the technology useful and convenient for many purposes. This week alone, my students have done individual webquests about alternative energy sources, they have prepared presentations about energy and shared them in small groups with other students at our school, and they have done independent work, watching science and math instructional videos of their choice.
While computers help every student succeed, they are particularly engaging and useful to those who learn best and explain best in ways that do not rely on printed words. The ability to learn and to report using many forms of visuals and graphics can make a critical difference for these students.
Thank you very much for your contribution to our classroom. You have made a difference.”

Funded Dec 28, 2016My students are working on their "Space" unit this month. For the project, they research various objects in space, such as meteors, planets, stars, and moons, and the students describe the characteristics that determine the categorization of the object. They check out the NASA webpage and watch videos that are worth a million words. Each student writes a paper to explain their analysis. ALL of this work is performed using technology and, in particular, using the Chromebooks we have thanks to your generosity.
Technology brings the world into our classroom every day. Thank you for making this possible for my precious students.”

Funded Dec 23, 2016Thank you for contributing to this project.
In our classroom, technology is a must. The students know how to log on to their chromebooks and use them to search the Internet, draft documents, and take assessments. This helps my students learn because they have access to the tools and information that they need for their inquiry projects. It helps me AND the students because I can set up projects and challenges for the class and for individual students. It helps parents, who can check into the work their students are doing on-line. And it helps the environment - we use so much less paper than ever before!
I have seen that a chromebook especially helps students who may be less motivated to write, read, and do math because these students (really, all students) ADORE working on the computer, so assignments are more fun. I have students who struggle to read books, but there are programs that allow these students to listen to audiobooks or to read along on a page while listening to the words be read to them on a chromebook. That way, they can access the grade-level books their friends are reading! For writing, students can dictate and use "speech to text" technology to assist with writing! It's wonderful.
Thank you again. You have made a difference.”

Funded Sep 7, 2016We use our Chromebooks every day in the classroom. During the past month, my students have worked together or individually to explore Ellis Island through an interactive National Park Service site. They have written opinion essays to explain why they think eligible U.S. citizens should vote. They have taken surveys about our school, they have taken quizzes on books they are reading, and they have been assessed in reading, math, and writing. Having Chromebooks available in the classroom means that we do not have to experience the interruption that would be presented by waiting for time in our school's computer lab ( 30 computers shared by more than 600 students).
Thank you for helping us squeeze every possible instructional minute out of our time in school!”

Ms. Gormley
Energize Us!
Funded May 25, 2016These Chromebooks and the charging station have had a huge impact on our classroom. Before we received the charging station, we had a nest of wires to unravel every afternoon so that we could plug our laptops into extension cords. I was keeping the laptops in dishracks in an attempt to keep them in some kind of order! This was a problem, to say the least, when at least 27 students were pulling the laptops out several times every day to work with them.
Now, we have a truly secure storage place for our technology. My students take their Chromebooks (and we now have nearly a full class set) from the charging station in the morning and return them in the afternoon. The Chromebooks always are fully charged and are stored at night in a heavy, rolling cart that is locked. Everything looks great and it is a true benefit to have this technology easily and safely available for everyone.
Thank you!”

Funded Oct 14, 2016In my classroom, students are moving into books about ideas - how to get along with friends, how to deal with tough situations, how to find their strengths as they grow up. It does not matter what reading "level" they have achieved - my students want to read meaningful texts.
The wonderful thing about the books you have provided with your gift to us is that every one of these books is attractive, fun to read, and desirable to everyone in the class. Some of the books are "easy" to read, some are more difficult, but all are popular and went immediately into kids' hands, as soon as the delivery boxes were opened. We have a waiting list for several of the books!
Thank you once again for making my kids feel pumped up about reading!”
With gratitude,
Ms. Gormley
March On (Chrome)!
Funded May 6, 2016My students are so excited to use these Chromebooks. We have been researching and writing about space and space exploration and the students LOVE being able to work independently with these laptops.
The technology inspires them to search the Internet and create their own documents. It makes learning fun - even in the lovely, year-end month of May!
Thank you so much for donating the funds for these laptops. My students are taking care of them very responsibly and they and I love the flexibility these Chromebooks have given us. We will use them every day this year and for years to come.”

Funded Mar 12, 2016Today, my students began to create an informational document about the solar system. I loved it, with 28 students in class, to see my students researching with books AND online to find the information they needed. There was no need for my students to schedule a trip to the computer lab, or to wait in line for a computer. Thanks to you, any student in our class can have reasonable access to a Chromebook for a quick search, or to type up the exciting information they find. Their efforts are collaborative and they have FUN while they learn!
Thank you from all of us. Your help has transformed our classroom and we know how lucky we are to have you.”

Ms. Gormley
