The students in my class amaze me every day. They come from homes where different languages are spoken, breakfast is hard to come by and there are rarely books being read by anyone. Yet, every day they come to school eager to learn, giving it everything they've got. They are excited by science, love to do art, and are really turned on by math. However, their biggest accomplishment this year has been their growth as readers. The whole class has impressed me with their overwhelming desire to become better at reading. No matter their level, each student is constantly working toward improving their understanding of written materials. They scour our poorly stocked classroom library shelves daily on a continued search to find the "hidden treasure" that the perfect book would be for them. They trade, share and are constantly negotiating who gets which "prized" book next, all the while asking me if I have anything more for them. These are lifelong readers waiting to take off!
