These materials will make a great difference in the learning of my students by providing them with meaningful tasks during job time. The vast majority of my students are learning their letters and numbers. All of my students are working on their fine motor skills, such as gripping a pencil and using scissors. Many of these tools require the use of tongs, while also recruiting mathematics and letter recognition, so the benefit of these activities are two fold. We also are in need of book boxes, so my students can begin to take ownership of their choices and choose books that are meaningful to them. These will sit on the top row of our job shelves! The pocket charts will be vital for our morning meeting, as place value and sense of time a large parts of kindergarten! As mentioned above, I want to provide each of my students the foundation they need in order to succeed this year and beyond. For many of my students, this is their first exposure school. While some of their peers may have had access to similar tools in preschool or transitional kindergarten, many have not and these are versions that are age appropriate for kindergarten, so all students will benefit. These tools will make finger strength, number sense, sorting, and so much fun for students of all levels and keep them engaged through job time. You may be wondering what the chime on our wish list is for! While students are working with all these resources, I would like to have a peaceful way to transition them away from their activity and back to the whole group. Your dollar goes a long way with this project. The students I see each day will have an even bigger smile with these tools.
