Love's New Intervention Room!
Funded Aug 11, 2022Thank you so much for your continued support of our school! This project allowed me to start the school year efficiently by providing essential materials to set up the intervention classroom at Love Elementary! I use the magnetic letters daily with students ranging from Kindergarten to 3rd grade. We also use our printer to print and scan activities and reports organizing them in our student binders.
My students feel very welcomed when they come to my room to get services for Dyslexia intervention because of the materials I have from this project! We love gathering around the large desk to practice our letter recognition and using our giant regrouping chart to collaborate.”

Funded Nov 13, 2021I am very excited to share this update with you. Our class pets Lucy and Susy are living their best lives as we have been able to provide them a spacious home. Their home has two separate environments where they can eat, sleep, go to the bathroom and run around! When we got them, they lived in a cage so small they had to use the bathroom right next to their food bowls. I created this donorschoose project because it broke my heart to see my guinea pigs' living conditions; I wanted to teach my students to be responsible and respect these beautiful creatures.
Thank you so much for making this happen! My students adore their pets and have learned so much from them. We feed them, clean them and enjoy seeing them run around in their awesome cage! Several of my students can't afford to have pets at home, therefore having a pet in the classroom means the world to them.”

Funded Aug 12, 2021At the beginning of the year I had a vision of how my students could learn writing more effectively, that vision led me to create this Donorschoose project. Now being able to share with you how this vision came alive and how much my students have improved their Spanish reading and writing is truly amazing.
Our class is deeply grateful for your help making instruction more accessible this year.
My students use their whiteboards every single day to practice their handwriting strokes. They have developed a wonderful literacy routine in which students lead the class and model to each other how to write the letters and syllables on their white boards.
In addition, our mouse and monitors have helped them be more confident taking online assessments; with the monitors they have learned to navigate a website and click on the answer. They use software bought by the school district to practice math and reading. Many of my students had never seen, much less used a 27inch monitor, it's wonderful that they have the chance to use this technology at such an early age and become proficient with it.
I invite you to look at the pictures we are sharing and reflect on your contribution to our classroom, it makes a significant impact. You are making a difference in our local public school. Thank you for investing in the future of 50 kindergarteners in Houston.”

Funded Aug 20, 2021My students and I would like to thank you all from the bottom of our hearts! Thank you so much for your generosity and continued support for our classroom community.
With our bins we were able to organize our books for the classroom library
and student portfolios to showcase our projects and classroom work.
In addition the desks and chairs are being used by students to take their Kindergarten Entry assessments and will be used to the middle and end of the year evaluations, as well as our dyslexia screeners. My students love being called to the tech corner to take their assessments. They get to use a nicer desk and office chair, which motivates them to be engaged with the online assessments. I am excited to see the growth in my students data as we keep using our materials to improve their experience taking these tests.
Be sure to check our the pictures to see this project in action!”

Spanish Literacy for Dual Language
Funded Mar 2, 2020I created this project in the Spring of 2020 to help my students with their Spanish language acquisition. Given that there is a limited availability of resources in Spanish, I was hopeful that this project could help my students access the materials we were lacking. It was a time full of anxiety due to the threat of Covid-19. Unbeknownst to me school was cancelled on Thursday, March 12 and remained closed for the rest of the school year.
Nevertheless, the materials for the "Spanish Literacy for Dual Language" project were shipped on time and I was able to coordinate with my principal to go to school and pick up these items. By the end of the semester I had my virtual class in full swing; I was able to use the Spanish Emergent Readers every day in Whole group lessons. My students engaged with the materials right away. They were learning and expanding their reading comprehension skills with our online classes. In addition, we reviewed our syllables every day with our syllable flipbooks. We built words and segmented syllables with the puzzles during our small group time. It was incredible! Transitioning to online learning would not have been possible without this project. Myself and my students are infinitely grateful for your support.”

Technology for Literacy!
Funded Dec 3, 2019I am incredibly grateful for your donation. As soon as I received the items I downloaded multiple education apps on our new Galaxy Tablets for my students to use during workstations. It fills me with joy to know that they absolutely love them! Students use Kids A-Z to read e-books, they also trace the letters and practice their handwriting skills. In addition, my students are excited to use the sight word games to read and write new words/sentences that help them improve their reading level. Using this type of technology is a great opportunity for many of my students who do not have access to the internet at home. Furthermore, these tablets are useful during my Spelling Bee Club after school; we use google voice search to research the definition, examples and language of origin of words.
On the other hand, our read along library allowed me to open a listening station in our classroom. It was a major achievement for me to be able to provide my students with a station that allows them to self-select texts that interest them and listen to fluent reading. Students are learning to follow along with the books and listen closely to improve their comprehension!”
