  • Wake Me Up, Before You Teach, Teach!

    Funded Apr 4, 2018

I wish you could experience first hand the excitement that our Morning Tubs are creating each day in our classroom! My students are so engaged and ready to start learning because they know there will be something fun to start with every morning! Because each tub is unique, students are getting to practice a variety of skills through the use of the tubs. A couple of favorites right now are fine motor skill practice with play dough and letter recognition with letter cubes. Another favorite is our building boxes - many are ready to explore and put their building skills to the test - while thinking creatively, engineering designs and using fine motor skills. It's a win win for everyone! And because we have 24 boxes, it will take a long time before they are bored with any one activity!

Thank you again so much for your amazing donations and for supporting learning in our classroom. We are so grateful for your wonderful generosity!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Wilson

  • Bringing Down the Farm!

    Funded Apr 20, 2018

Thank you so much for your contribution to my project! I wish that I could share with you the exact squeals and excitement that exploded from my classroom when our first chick hatched from our new incubator. The students were beside themselves as we all took turns looking at the new baby chick! This experience was one that I know these students will never forget, and I now have the equipment to repeat this engagement and excitement for years to come.

My students and I are so grateful for our new incubator. Even though it's a short process of incubating eggs, what they learned will last a lifetime. My students were able to learn how to be responsible and respectful with animals, did a ton of writing about the life cycle and about chicks, and will never forget this wonderful experience.

We are grateful for your donations and appreciate you! Thank you for helping my kindergarten students to grow!”

    With gratitude,

  • We've Got the WRITE Stuff!

    Funded Sep 26, 2017

A sincere and heartfelt thanks for funding my project to provide my students with whiteboards and markers to be able to use for paperless learning. We are so enjoying our new supplies and use them on a daily basis! It has made a huge impact on our learning - we do everything from practicing math problems, to handwriting practice, to sounding out and spelling words. Anything that I can think of that we can do paperless, we are doing on our whiteboards!

When the package first arrived, my students were delighted to see that we had whiteboards that were clean and HUGE! We use these as lapboards sometimes as well, and these boards give us enough landscape so we do not have to move our paper around as we work. The students also loved the rainbow of colored markers to choose from. (An extra added bonus is that they get to choose the color they want if they have good behavior!) We store all our materials at the front of the classroom and students easily can grab what they need and sit down.

Our classroom has grown tremendously already this school year. Currently, we are working on sounding out words and putting letters with words in our writing and reading. We are also beginning addition and subtraction equations - both skills get lots of practice with our whiteboards. Thank you so much for your generosity. We greatly appreciate your support of our class!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Wilson

  • Blowing Off Some STE{a}M!

    Funded Aug 16, 2016

Do you remember what it felt like to wake up on Christmas morning? The excitement and anticipation of opening your new presents and playing with them? Well, that's what it's been like in our classroom ever since we received our DonorsChoose materials. I have been slowly adding the amazing tools to our collection of supplies to help build our STEM learning and thinking. Each time I bring out a new item, my student's eyes light up and they eagerly wait for an explanation of how to use the new blocks.

In the beginning, most of my students weren't quite sure how to make the most of our new tools. We have Magnatiles, an array of new building blocks, and centers to create buildings, bridges, and vehicles. It started exactly as I wanted - with them being able to freely explore and figure things out on their own. As they have had more time with the equipment, they have become more curious with what they can build and are starting to make some pretty extravagant creations! One group of boys can not get enough of our magnatile center, and their goal is to continuously add to their building and make it taller than the last build. It is so fun to watch them work together, learn from each other, talk about what they need to stabilize the building to make it stronger on the base - so much great learning is happening without me even trying! This problem solving is translating into their other subjects as well as I see them growing in their confidence and independence in general.

From the bottom of my heart, thank you for your support of this project. I have been so thrilled to see my students actively investigating and trying out new things with these materials. We use our afternoon STEM time as a motivator and it has increased focus and productivity of other subject areas as they are so excited to continue to create. Their confidence and problem solving skills have flourished and it due to the infusion of new materials to think and create. Thank you for bringing this to my classroom. I am reminded daily of your kindness and generosity in the smiles of my students!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Wilson
