  • Community Service in the Kinder Classroom

    Funded Oct 2, 2022

A heartfelt thank you for your invaluable support of our classroom. Your generosity provides the resources needed to enhance our students' education, fostering their growth and creating a nurturing learning environment. Your contribution truly makes a difference.

Engaging centers and activities play a crucial role in the kindergarten classroom, offering numerous benefits for young learners. These activities promote active and hands-on learning experiences. Kindergarteners thrive on exploration and discovery, and centers provide them with opportunities to engage with materials and concepts in a meaningful and interactive way. Whether it's a sensory table, an art station, or a math manipulative center, these activities allow children to actively participate, fostering their cognitive, social, and physical development.

Centers and activities in the kindergarten classroom provide active, hands-on learning experiences that promote skill development across multiple domains. They foster independence, cooperative learning, and social skills while catering to the unique needs and interests of young learners. By incorporating these enriching activities, we create a dynamic and engaging learning environment that sets a strong foundation for future academic success.”

  • Back to School Basics

    Funded Jul 12, 2021

Our year began organized and ready to go with all of our new resources. Each student had their own pencil bag holding their own box of crayons, scissors, pencils, eraser and glue stick. Folders and notebooks were ready and waiting for our eager learners.

When I tell you the look on their faces were priceless after they learned each bag was especially made by you, their donors, they were so excited and proud to begin learning immediately!

With your donation, our youngest learners will gain organizational skills by learning to take care of their own supplies independently and how to always be prepared for learning. Again, thank you so much for helping them begin their year prepared to learn.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Schweizer

  • Learning Is So Much Easier When You Chill Out

    Funded Dec 4, 2019

We received our new furniture right before Christmas break, so you can imagine the excitement my kindergartners exhibited in opening our furniture and then arranging our new classroom! Allowing them to open the furniture with me and then brainstorming together how we could best use them, when, and where was the best opportunity to establish their ownership.

The flexible seating you provided has ignited their love of learning. They are excited to find a place to read or to collaborate with a friend and that's difficult to develop in some learners. They feel important when they have a nice place to sit and learn and that self confidence will only enable their love for learning.

We thank you! This entire experience has been a lesson within itself. I thank you for your generosity, but most importantly in helping me to create an environment for my students that they love to learn in everyday.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Schweizer

Let's face it, Kindergartners can be restless at times. Not to any fault of their own, of course, it's just where they are developmentally. They also need plenty of choices to keep their little minds happy. Why is this important to enable the power of choice? Well, it's how they learn independence, boundaries and consequences (both good and bad consequences of course). Plus, they are continuously growing. Their minds and bodies are growing at a rapid rate and what might suit them this week might not suit them the following week and that's just one reason why I would like to incorporate flexible seating into my classroom. I have to admit, I was not always on board with the concept of flexible seating. I mean, to me, the idea of kindergartners choosing where to sit and learn, independently or not, seemed out right chaotic and I'm not about chaos! Then, a teacher on my team asked me if I would ever do it. Immediately, I said no way, no how. Of course that would set into motion the complex internal dialogue of "why not?" An epiphany happened. During small groups, students are already spread out through out the room. Usually on the cold floor, up against a wall, or squished between their stinky backpacks. There are too many for them all to enjoy space on the carpet. Too close and they're unable to remain on task. So, I asked myself, "Why not provide students with comfortable choices to independently learn?"
