Bringing Cheer to Far and Near: Caroling on the Riverwalk
Funded Nov 12, 2019Our trip was so much fun!
My students loved getting to sing their hearts out and spread holiday cheer to our community. They enjoyed getting to see the river decked out with all the holiday decorations, and all the strings of bright, colored lights hanging from the trees.
One of the highlights of the trip was getting waved to and recorded by the people along the river. It made them feel like celebrities! They had a lot of fun getting to wave back and seeing the smiles on peoples' faces.
My kids saw firsthand the excitement that singing can bring to people of all kinds out in the community, and they are more ready than ever to continue performing for their city. From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for making this possible!”

Promoting Literacy: Reading About Music!
Funded Aug 29, 2017These new books allowed opportunities to connect literacy, reading, and core content to our choir classes. Students were able to delve deeper into topics of music history, such as Mozart and Elvis, which they thoroughly enjoyed.
As trained music substitutes are difficult to find, my students were still able to use the books to have quality lessons on days I had to be away. Students were able to complete book reports, complete with quotes, summary, and critique.
Many students who do not yet feel confidence in singing, have been able to connect to music that they love and appreciate, such as K Pop. This has been an excellent way to encourage literacy among all classes, which has helped our campus initiatives.”

Funded Apr 19, 2017Our Non-Varsity Treble choir was thrilled to find out the flower crowns had been funded just in time for our Spring Pop Show. The addition of these props created just the aesthetic they wanted for the Hawaiian version of "Over the Rainbow." Our students are excited to see what further songs would benefit from the flower crowns.
Our students were also able to use the black binders this year to hold all the sheet music in preparation for the final concert. Without the worry of supplies, our students will be able to continue focusing solely on beautiful music-making.”

Singing and Learning in Style!
Funded Apr 29, 2017Our Varsity Treble and Non-Varsity Tenor-Bass choirs were ecstatic to know that we would be receiving black and white fedoras in time for our Spring Pop Show. The addition of these props brought together their performance of Michael Jackson's "Man in the Mirror," which was easily a crowd favorite at our final show for the year.
Our students were able to use the pencil sharpener, highlighters, and binders this year as well. They are excited to continue using these materials during the following school year. Without the worries of supplies, our students are able to focus solely on beautiful music-making.”

Choir Risers: Look As Professional As You Sound!
Funded Nov 10, 2015The risers have greatly effected my students' experiences in choir. When my students walked through the door and saw that the risers had been assembled, the positive impact on morale was immediate. Their faces glowed as they expressed how our work space finally resembled a choir classroom.
My students have been using the risers for daily rehearsals. The risers have maximized learning time by allowing for more efficient classroom management. The students are able to stand together as a unit. They are now able to function better as a choir, rather than as individual singers separated by space and chairs.
My students were able to use their own risers for the third nine-weeks curriculum concert, "America Sings!" This led to increased ownership in the final product. We will continue to use these risers for future choral concerts and performances. We wish to thank you again for your part in creating positive choral experiences at Connell M.S.”
