Painting With Diverse Dexterity!
Funded Aug 9, 2022My fifth grade class welcomed the art supplies, purchased through your generous donations, with eager enthusiasm! The paint cakes make it possible for students to paint in rich, vibrant colors or, with the addition of more water, in dreamy pastels.
The fifth graders represented themselves through self-portraits and though poetry. I appreciated that the students were offered a range of hues to choose from as they reflected their images through art. Our pieces are now displayed on the wall with pride. We will enjoy depicting more imagery as our school year progresses.
Thank you for your generosity!”

Ms. Kimberly
This classroom project was brought to life by Bill Gates and 5 other donors.Listening to Learn
Funded Jun 10, 2019Thank you for donating to my "Listening to Learn" project. Your donation provided the funds to purchase headphones for my class. We utilize the computers regularly as an aspect of our educational routine. Whether it be watching a video, listening to an audiobook, or utilizing text to speech the headphones enable my students to concentrate on individual task.
The students love these attractive, yet sturdy, devices. Kids will wear a set of headphones to muffle classroom noises while working on an essay or taking a test. They are foldable, allowing them to be stored more easily, which I appreciate.
The headphones are quite effective in blocking out sound. I found that I had to teach my students to take the headphones off before speaking after I was startled by students shouting a question at their near neighbors.
Thank you for ensuring my students have this useful tool. I am grateful for generosity and your investment in our school.”

Mastering Mathematics
Funded May 7, 2018Thank you, Jon, for contributing to my Donor's Choose project, Mastering Mathematics. Your donation funded the purchase of tools which helped ease my students' mathematical journey this year, and for years to come. The Hands-On Decimal Tiles and the Magnetic Number Lines for Decimals were helpful in modeling concepts in number sense for my students during whole-group lessons. These tools were also wonderful to use in small group lessons with students who needed guided practice.
All of my students eagerly employed the Powers of 10 Slider Boards as they explored multiplying and dividing numbers by powers of 10. The boards allowed students to change a number's value by moving the decimal point, instead of re-writing the number. Having taught this concept many times, I was grateful for the enthusiasm this tool added to the learning of this math procedure. My students do not know how this tool simplified the concept for them, but I do and you have my thanks for enabling the purchase. We were also able to share the Powers of 10 Slider Boards with the other fifth grade classrooms so your gift reached all of the fifth grade learners at our school.
The fifth graders will begin studying fractions in the spring. Having experienced the decimal tools, my students are keen to utilize the tools for fractions. I am happy to have visual aids to enable students to grasp the idea of multiplying fractions.
I am also grateful that in giving, you demonstrated generosity to my students. For students, who may not have donating modeled at home, the idea of strangers being benevolent simply to add good to the world is an important one. I thank you for the inclusion of that lesson as well. Thank you for investing in us.”

Ms. Kimberly
Don't Be Shocked! We Need Supplies to Teach Electricity
Funded May 7, 2015Thank you for your generosity in donating funds for our electricity lessons. My class has had a wonderful time discovering different ways to construct electrical circuits. The kids have exclaimed with excitement and enthusiasm as they've explored conductors and insulators, as well as series and parallel circuits. I hope that their insights into electricity, through this tactile experience, will be something that they carry with them through the rest of their schooling and build on in future experiments.
We are continuing with our electricity unit as we investigate the creation of electromagnets. These lessons on electricity have also helped my fifth grade students better understand the factors contributing to lightning and thunderstorms while they research natural disasters, a topic we are researching for written essays.
Thank you again for your investment in your former school. My student's faces have shone as bright as the lights they made!”
With gratitude,
Ms. Kimberly
