  • Happy Hygiene for Healthy Teens

    Funded Nov 2, 2024

Thank you so much for your generous contribution towards purchasing hygiene supplies for our students in need. Your support has made a significant impact in our classroom. We recently launched the hygiene cart school wide. Students can focus on personal health and wellness. When they first saw the materials, their faces lit up with excitement and gratitude, knowing they now have the resources to take care of themselves. Moving forward, we will continue to integrate these supplies into our lessons, emphasizing the importance of hygiene in our daily lives, and I can't wait to share their progress with you!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Ferguson

  • 21st Century Skills and Reading Improvement Thrills (Part 2)

    Funded Jun 25, 2019

I am once again in awe of how amazing the DonorsChoose Community is. I am so thankful and lucky to be able to have another project funded. It was a great end of school year surprise, and an even better way to start off this school year!

My students were thrilled to hear that we would be adding more technology to our classroom. Having 3 more iPads allows me to give more students access to great online learning resources. I can now have students pair up to work with our OSMO kits (another DonorsChoose funded project!) or read books and create movies. My students love technology, and being able to incorporate that in to their education is in thanks to my donors.

I am very excited for my charging cart as well. This saves us so much time and hassle. We can organize all of our technology and have it charging all in one place. No more uncharged technology or wires hanging everywhere! It is also a great way for me to teach my students about responsibility and caring for items.

Thank you for helping kick off this school year. It is going to be a great one!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Ferguson

  • OSMO-tivation to learn!

    Funded Dec 14, 2018

Thank you again for your support and generosity. I am humbled and grateful for all of you. The Osmo bases and kits have brought so much joy to myself and my students. They were so excited to hear about the new games that they could play. My students love technology! I am thankful I have a way to use their love of technology to help them learn and engage with academics. My students are using the Osmo to learn math skills, money skills, spelling and a whole host of other things. Having these Osmo kits has allowed my students to access content in a way that is not overwhelming and also lets them have fun.

It has been wonderful to see my students collaborate when playing the different Osmo games. My students can sometimes struggle with social skills, but this technology has allowed them to improve their communication and turn taking skills. It warms my heart to see my students working together and getting along to reach a common goal. They can work together to problem solve or help each other come up with ideas to help them win the games. It has been amazing to see how happy my students get when they complete a level. I love that the Osmo kits have allowed them to have fun and stay engaged while still learning important concepts.

My students and I cannot thank you enough for what you have done for us. We are so excited to have this technology. It has brought us such fun in such a short amount of time. I cannot wait to see where this takes us!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Ferguson

  • BREAKing Barriers in Special Education

    Funded Sep 8, 2018

Words cannot express how thankful I am to you all. When I first saw these Breakout EDU kits, I knew my students would love them! It was a perfect way for them to have fun while using their knowledge and skills. It was also a great way for to them to collaborate with their classmates and practice their social interaction. These kits have made for many great moments already, and I cannot wait to see what else comes from them.

We have gotten to play two breakout games so far. My students solved the first one in 20 minutes! I was so impressed. They had so much fun with their new kits. It was the first time I saw them all working together and positively collaborating. They helped each other to solve the clues and everyone was able to show their strengths. It was amazing to see how students who are normally quiet show their leadership skills.

I cannot wait to continue using these kits in my classroom. We will be playing a Halloween themed game very soon! My students are always asking me when we will play again. Thank you for giving them something to be excited about!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Ferguson

  • 21st Century Skills and Reading Improvement Thrills

    Funded Mar 27, 2018

Words cannot express the amount of gratitude I felt when I found out my project had been funded. I had been trying for a year and a half to get technology access for my students. They had a look of genuine excitement on their faces when I told them what we were getting. The iPads have been such a great resource for myself and for them.

My students have been using the iPads to access MyOn. MyOn is an online reading program that has thousands of books for the students to choose from. It provides enrichment for students at all different levels. My students also made sure I downloaded Cool Math Games for them. It is one of their favorite apps. Plus, it helps them to enhance their math skills without it feeling like tedious work! I am excited to delve more in to the world of educational apps to provide even further opportunities for my students to enhance their learning. We will also be using it for research projects in the future. We are currently working on a Solar System unit, and I cannot wait to see my students using the iPads to look up information about the different planets.

Again, I am incredibly thankful for the gift of technology. It has truly made my classroom a better space. It has made my students more excited about learning. They get to use their 21st century knowledge skill set to help them grow more and more each day.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Ferguson

  • Students Sharing Unique Abilities

    Funded Feb 1, 2017

My students' faces lit up with happiness when the realized that I was opening packages that had materials for them. They were instantly passing the books around and sharing their favorite parts that they had discovered. My student who is blind had the chance to feel the braille and was excited to share what he was reading. Other students gathered around him to feel the braille and watched as he read aloud to them. It was such a heartwarming moment. Now, he is able to choose a book to read on his own and talk to his peers about what he is reading. It is great to see my students interact and learn from one another.

My students and I were especially interested in how materials for the visually impaired are created with the sense of touch in mind. We all were grossed out by the sticky worms page in one of the books. My girls especially loved a page of raised-up hearts. I also loved how the animals in the book felt furry or scaly. I thought this would give students an instant way to compare and contrast the animals.

These new texts will help my student who reads braille practice his braille reading skills. It will also help my students to have conversations about both the text and the use of braille. Our classroom library has now expanded, which gives the students more choice of what to read on their free time. I am so thankful to have been granted these materials. It has truly made a positive impact on my classroom and the relationships between my students.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Ferguson
