My students come from all walks of life and with a wide range of abilities. That said, they also have much in common. They come to school every day excited to learn. The lessons they most enjoy are ones that allow them to be active and manipulate learning materials. They are thrilled when they are encouraged to be creative and love to show off their creative products to their peers. My students are 21st Century learners, and with that come high expectations. They are expected to be critical thinkers and problem solvers and must learn to persevere when problems are challenging. They are given performance tasks that require them to not only find an answer, but to also show how they got it and communicate their thinking to justify it to others. This is far more difficult than choosing an answer on a multiple-choice test. Therefore, I must provide a classroom environment that nurtures the development of 21st Century Skills.
