  • Aunt Flo

    Funded Oct 24, 2023

We are so extremely grateful for the generous donation to our hygiene cabinet. Our students often forget things or don't have things that are necessary for a stress free day. Some of our most needed items go quickly and with your donation of items, we will be able to have things ready to restock immediately. To a middle schooler, this means a ton.

Lots of changes happen during those middle school years and sometimes without any type of warning. We all know how incredibly stressful this can be for anyone, but to a middle schooler it just is almost unbearable. Your generosity helps minimize this when they know there is a place they can go to get what they need in seconds.

We are forever grateful to Donors Choose and the DONORS who make all of this happen for us in education!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Howell

  • Restock the Hygiene Cabinet!

    Funded Dec 10, 2022

Having these products available to our students has been overwhelmingly incredible. Seeing the number of students that utilize our "private" "no questions asked" hygiene cabinet makes us realize just how much this was needed by so many. When you see the relief on their faces knowing that they were able to get the products they needed, it makes you even more grateful for the generosity of our donors!

Thank you to each and every person who gave to this project to allow each child to have the dignity of acquiring hygiene items on their own and not having to depend on asking someone for something.

    We are forever grateful!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Howell

    Funded Sep 26, 2022

When we decided to start our military club, we realized that a military club section in the Library would be an incredible way to highlight books especially for military students and families. Who did we turn to in order to make this happen? Of course, Donors Choose and our incredibly generous donors!! You have helped build this collection into what OUR students want to read! We are forever grateful and honored to have added this military selection of books to our collection.

This also has allowed our military students the ability to express the things that help them when they transition to a new school, city, and home. Often times, they are moved at some of the hardest times to a new environment and we decided to try and help them with these moves when they come to our school. Knowing that their opinions matter and seeing that we "see" them has been a game changer in making the transition a bit easier.

You never know where a book will take you...and in this case it has taken us to empathy for others. Once again, your generosity has overwhelmed us in the way it touches our students.”

  • Asian American, Pacific Islanders...get to know them better!

    Funded Jan 18, 2022

We have desperately tried this year to be extremely diligent in our efforts to purchase books for our middle schoolers that reflect various cultures. One particular thing we have done this year is to form a book club that has collaborated with a Pacific Islander. We have invited her to our book club meetings virtually and inperson to dive deeper into her culture. She has also cooked for us and we have been able to "Taste the Culture" as well as ask her specific questions regarding the books we have read.

We have learned through this that one of the particular authors is not only Pacific Islander, but also lived in our area. We researched her finding webinars and such that allowed us to learn more about the stories behind the books. This opened us up to even more information about the culture.

Our students are so excited about these activities along with the desire to read more and learn more!! Thank you for helping us with your generous donations and support to bring cultural activities and books to our school and students.”

  • Learning to Read with Wordless Picture Books!

    Funded Nov 22, 2021

I have been a Librarian for 11 years now and an educator for 28. This year is the very first time that I have been faced with teaching a hearing impaired middle schooler how to read, how to understand the English language, and sign language. When we first met this student, all we knew is that he had been in the United States only two years, his family's first language was spanish, and that he loved to draw.

When asked by his teacher, "As a Librarian, what do you suggest we do to teach him the love of reading?" I was perplexed. The first thing that came to my mind, was Wordless Picture Books. Wordless Picture Books are magical...it was a perfect start. Unfortunately, moving to the middle school library, we didn't have but one that belonged to me personally.

Because of your amazing generosity, we were able to purchase several Wordless Picture Books and our student has been devouring them. He is able to share them with others as well and is smiling and joyful when he comes to the Library to get another one. The transformation he has experienced is phenomenal and YOU are a huge part of that. Thank you from the very bottom of this educator/Librarian's heart!!”

  • Native American Books!

    Funded Dec 16, 2021

When taking over an extremely old collection of books in a Library, you realize how far we have come in our selection process. Ensuring that every child can see themselves in a collection not only takes time, but funding. Donors Choose is allowing us the opportunity to take a good hard look at our current needs and update our collection one book at a time.

The generosity of donors is so impactful for us, that there just aren't words to describe the look on a students face when they see you have ordered books just for them. There is such a sense of joy in their faces and they realize they are important to us, our school, our community, and our Library program.

This never gets old, writing the grants and receiving the resources...seeing the students faces...it is a dream come true and a huge reason I love being a Librarian. Thank you for the books, thank you for the joy, thank you for enriching our lives in our little Library that we love so much.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Howell

  • Financial Literacy, What is that again?!

    Funded Aug 13, 2021

We weren't sure how Financial Literacy would go over with our middle schoolers, but what a welcomed surprise to see them enjoying the resources (GAMES) that you provided!! The students are learning about budgeting, saving, paying bills, etc. through games and conversations during playing those games.

Thank you so much for allowing our students to get a hard start on learning about Financial Literacy. This knowledge is life changing and can be the financial difference in being loaded with debt or being smart with their own money.

Our Library Program has gained so many amazing resources because of Donors Choose and the generosity of the donors. The Library buzzes with excitement daily from our middle schoolers and they love all the new additions specifically for them!

Thank you, Thank you, Thank you!!”

  • Financial Literacy...What Is That?!

    Funded Jul 26, 2021

We are a PLC middle school whose mission is ensuring high levels of learning for all. One of our collective committments involves a three tiered system of RTI which we call FLEX. During our FLEX Library time we have chosen to teach Financial Literacy. Introducing all types of literacy allows our students opportunities which they may not have time to learn in the daily classroom setting.

Financial Literacy is important for students to learn beginning at a young age before they seek employment, attend college, or begin to buy things with their own money. Our students are using the resources provided by your generous donations to introduce them to finances, budgets, and saving. Through literature and games, our students are building their knowledge of money.

Once a week for 4 to 5 weeks students will rotate to different sections of the Library with the different resources you provided. This will ensure that everyone has the opportunity to explore and learn from every resource you so generously provided.

We are so grateful for your donations which allow us to dive deeper into literacy in the Library!”

  • The Books that SHOULD BE in all Middle School Libraries!

    Funded May 5, 2021

Our collection age is 19-34 years old which means that our students did not have access to more current literature, authors, and resources. With your generous help for the past one and a half years, we have been able to add books to our collection that our students ask for and want to read! Also, we have curated lists of books that all middle school libraries should have in their collection. These lists are highly recommended to ensure that students have mirrors, doors, and windows through the books that are on our shelves.

As we all know, funding can be the biggest deterent of an updated collection of books in our school libraries. We try very hard to raise those monies, however having generous donations such as YOU have given, make it not only easier, but QUICKER that we can get those books in the hands of our students.

Another amazing part of these updated collection of books is that it ensures our students learn so much about others and have empathy for things that maybe they haven't been faced with. I know personally, I have enjoyed reading all the middle school books and have been overwhelmed with the writing from various authors. These authors have been able to eloquently draw me in and help me to be enthralled with their stories. Our students deserve these books and you have made that possible. Thank you so much for your generosity.”

  • Mirror Books for Middles

    Funded Apr 5, 2021

After hearing real time stories from the authors of these special books, we realized we needed more books that dealt with some of the social emotional aspects our students deal with daily. This list of books that you have generously donated to us encompasses a variety of scenarios that our students struggle with that we may never know about.

Thank you for allowing us to grow our collection and expand into areas that may not be covered as well as they should be. We are forever grateful to YOU, our donors, for supporting educators and especially those of us in the Library. Our Library is for EVERYONE and we want to make sure that EVERYONE feels welcomed and nurtured while here. YOU help us to make that happen on a daily basis. THANK YOU!”
