Most of the software we use is web based. Throughout the course of their program, students will be taking pictures, writing articles, and designing page layouts to prepare for print. The Chromebooks will be used to carry out these functions. This project requires research and word processing by every student in the Scholastic journalism programs, and the more real world technology the students are exposed to, the better chances they have to be competitive in the workforce. Teaching them how to use the software and the ins and outs of producing the yearbook and school newspaper will give them the opportunity to be successful in their futures. We are requesting a large technology donation for our classrooms. Our students need 5 Google Chromebooks and 5 Google console licenses. Part of adding this technology to our classrooms will allow for students to receive immediate feedback while working on the publications in class instead of being frustrated with the lack of technology at school and at home. In the past, technology like this was borrowed from other teachers, so we have witnessed how engaged and motivated students can be when given the proper tools to create these historical documents. Our school’s historical archives should have the technology to design and preserve our legacy. Your donation will not only allow our students to design and produce our school’s most important publications, but it will also allow these students to learn computer software that will help them compete in this tech savvy world.
