Art Odds and Ends
Funded Feb 1, 2011Thank you so much for your donation to my classroom. The children have already been busy learning to create prints with the jumbo ink pads. The brush buckets were especially handy when we were working to finish our big "Be Green" mural in time for Earth Day.
I can't tell you how much we appreciate your generosity. Supplies provided by the district don't always come as promised and when they do come they are often missing items or late. Donations are a more dependable source and they have become one that we count on. From a teacher's point of view, Donors Choose is one of the best ways people can donate to education. Teachers know what their students need and the supplies go straight to the need. I commend you for choosing to donate to an art program, as they are usually among the last to receive school, district, state and federal funds. It is truly heartwarming to know that there are people like you who care about children. You are helping to build our nation's future. Thank you for donating to my classroom. ”

Funded Oct 18, 2010Thank you so much for your donation to my classroom. The children are already enjoying the projector you have so generously donated. I can't tell you how much it means to them to get to use the projector. Their faces light up at the mere mention of it and the room falls into a amazed silence as soon as they see images of art, places, people and creatures from all over the world. Here at our school we use art to build up their lives in many ways. Of course art allows for creative expression, but it also appeals to visual and kinesthetic learners. We often do art projects to help reinforce a concept from science, math, reading, writing or social studies. The projector makes these connections much stronger.
It never fails to amaze me that many times a child who is struggling in other subjects finds success in the Art Room. I am always excited to see this happen and I make sure that I point out to the child that artistic talent can translate into a career in Architecture, Graphic Design, Web Design, Advertising, Film Making, Photography and of course, as an artist! This can help a struggling student stay positive about school and find his niche in the world and in life. The projector you've donated helps ensure that this positive outlet is available. I can't tell you how much we appreciate your generosity. This is the third year that I've taught art without a supply budget from my school. Supplies provided by the district don't always come as promised and when they do come they are often missing items or late. Donations are a more dependable source and they have become one that we count on. From a teacher's point of view, Donors Choose is one of the best ways people can donate to education. Funded Apr 7, 2010Wow! You saved the day around here at the school. Your generous donation couldn't have come at a better time. Our old markers were finally sputtering out and thanks to you, my little Picassos didn't skip a beat.
The third graders just finished their Georgia O'Keeffe inspired close-up flowers and they turned out so spectacular that the councilor wants to buy one from one of the kids and the first graders clapped their hands when I told them they could make some flowers too.
The fifth graders just completed their self portrait collection for the yearbook. These are very important projects for the children. They are learning not just about art, but about themselves and about cause and effect. Permanent markers are a great teacher of self discipline. They are not erasable, so the children learn to think first and have a plan before they act.
The markers you donated will last us through most of the next school year and be used by around 450 children. I can't thank you enough for your generosity. Your actions have made a difference!”

Ms. Kierst

Funded Mar 9, 2010Thank you so much for your donation to my classroom. The children are already creating their little masterpieces with the supplies you have so generously donated. I can't tell you how much it means to them to get to paint. Their faces light up at the mere mention of it and the room falls into a creative silence as soon as they get their hands on the paints.
Here at our school we use art to build up their lives in many ways. Of course art allows for creative expression, but it also appeals to visual and kinesthetic learners. We often do art projects to help reinforce a concept from science, math, reading, writing or social studies. Paint is an excellent medium for children because it also teaches self control, patience and cause and effect. Children watch colors spread and blend on the paper. A child quickly learns that if she doesn't want the colors to blend she must wait for them to dry before adding more. Children are more likely to read and learn from hallway displays when they have been created by other children.
Your donation will also raise spirits and self esteem here at our school. We are proud of our legacy of winning art contests. In the past we've had winning entries in the Library Hispanic Heritage Contest, Veteran's Day Art Contest and Poison Control Poster Contest. This year our students took Older Division: 1st place , 2nd place, Honorable Mention and Younger Division: 1st place in the Veteran's Day Art Contest.

One year I was told I would get a supply shipment and it didn't actually come until the last day of the NEXT school year! An ImPRESSive Venture
Funded Dec 28, 2008I am elated to learn that our art program has been funded. We've been on Christmas break and it will be a wonderful welcome back for the kids to learn that they will soon be using a real press to make prints! Spring is testing season-a stressful time for students and teachers. Your donation will be a bright spot in our days.
As a teacher who often pulls money from her own pocket for supplies, it warms my heart to know you care and want to help. Your generosity is much appreciated.
Thankfully Yours,
Mrs. ”
