Books Beyond Borders: Help Us Build a Diverse Library!
Funded Aug 24, 2024Thank you so much for your incredibly generous donation of books and supplies to our classroom. Your thoughtful contribution is already making a world of difference in the learning of my middle school special needs students, and we couldn't be more appreciative.
My students are unique in many ways and the resources they need to succeed are often different from those of other students. For example, the books you've provided are at lower reading levels than the books we have access to in school. These books are gateways to new worlds, opportunities, and possibilities, and will hopefully build positive relationships with reading and literature. The supplies, like colored pencils and dry erase boards ensure that each student has the materials they need to highlight their creativity and feel confident in what they produce.”

Please Give A Hoot & Help Us Compute
Funded Jul 1, 2013Thank you so much for your kind donation of math supplies to my seventh grade classroom. It is my first year teaching a self contained class and the addition of the math supplies has been wonderful! The room was empty when I moved in over the summer, and your donations have been an amazing help. I teach students with special needs so having the manipulatives are really helping me gear my lessons toward those who need more of a visual explanation to concepts. The students are really enjoying the supplies. Thanks again!”

Whiteboard Wishes
Funded Jul 10, 2013Thank you so much for your donation of white boards to my classroom. This is my first year in Room 205 so it has become very important to me to personalize everything. The addition of the whiteboard really tied everything together. I am able to decorate the room the way I want because the white boards make the entire room look shiny, new, and inviting! I was using chart paper during lessons for the first week of school until the white boards arrived and I am so happy with them! This was a project that I was excited about all summer and it has been all that I hoped for. The students were so excited to see the white boards hanging and couldn't wait to write on them. Thank you so much!”

FANtastic Fans
Funded May 21, 2013Thank you so much for your kind donation of fans to my classroom. I work in Brooklyn, NY and it can get pretty warm at school during September, May and June. Having fans in the room have helped keep my students cool during those few hot weeks we had at the beginning of this year. We were all very appreciative to have a cooling system in place for when the students came in from lunch time. I teach special needs students and having them less distracted by the heat was a great help keeping them focused during lessons. Thank you so much!”

Special Ed Students Need Math Manipulatives
Funded Mar 11, 2013Thank you so much for the things you donated to my class this year. I am currently an 8th grade Special Education teacher, and I work with the kids and their general education teacher in math, ELA, social studies, and science. Because of this assignment, I do not have my own room to decorate. However, I am using the posters you sent to put up in the math room. Before your donation, the room was very bare, so now it is great for the students to have motivational quotes and sayings to look at.
Math seems to be one of the areas that my special students struggle most. So, by donating the geometric blocks and base 10 blocks you are making a huge difference with my lower-level learners. They are visual learners that need hands-on materials to work with when a new topic is introduced to them. Demonstrating math concepts with tangible objects makes it easier for these learners to grasp the material and to make improvements throughout their years.
Thank you again. Your generosity and kindness means so much to my students and me. I hope you have a great summer!”

Stocking Up With Supplies
Funded Dec 25, 2012Dear Donors (1)
Thank you so much for the supplies you donated to my class this year. I am currently an 8th grade Special Education teacher, and I work with the kids and their general education teacher in math, ELA, science, and social studies. I have been using the supplies you donated a lot in math class. This year, the curriculum calls for students to have mastery of graphing. Thanks to you and the supplies, I have made graphing easier, more organized, and much more understandable for my students. They use the colored pencils every day to distinguish between equations when they are graphing two at once. I have also been able to plan hands-on activities, such as making study guides called "foldables" with the paper, markers, glue sticks, and scissors. The more hands-on things I can organize for the students, the better they are understanding the challenging 8th grade curriculum. Also, the index cards have greatly impacted my lower-level learners. These students have difficulty remembering the appropriate steps to take when solving equations, so I write the steps on index cards and staple them into their notebooks. This serves as a reference for these students during class time.
I am so excited about using these new supplies. Your donations have made my first year as a teacher an incredible experience. My students come from very low- income communities and their families do not have the ability to buy the supplies that they need in school. I am so thankful for you for helping me meet my students' needs in the classroom. Thank you again for making my first year a success and helping me prepare for next year's 8th graders! I hope you have a great summer!”
