  • Gear Up For Teamwork

    Funded Feb 15, 2025

    We cannot thank you enough for making our **Omnikin Ball** dream come true! The moment my students saw the giant ball, their eyes lit up with pure excitement—they could hardly wait to get started!

    Right away, we put it to use in our favorite game, **Monster Ball**, and it was an absolute blast! The size and teamwork required to move the ball brought a whole new level of energy and strategy to the game. Students were laughing, communicating, and working together in ways we hadn't seen before. It was amazing to watch everyone—regardless of skill level—fully engaged and having fun.

    But we're just getting started! Next, we'll be introducing **Indiana Jones**, a new game that will challenge their teamwork and coordination in exciting new ways. The Omnikin Ball is already inspiring creative play, problem-solving, and all-inclusive participation, and we can't wait to discover even more ways to use it in our PE lessons.

  • Playground Balls Across The Curriculum

    Thank you so much for your support in providing playground balls for my students! Because of your generosity, my PE classroom and recess time have been filled with even more movement, teamwork, and joy.

    The moment my students saw the new balls, their excitement was contagious—they couldn't wait to start playing! From practicing dribbling and passing skills to creating their own games during free play, these balls have become an essential part of our daily activities. For many of my students, especially those new to structured PE or group games, having enough high-quality equipment has made all the difference in their participation and confidence.

    One of my favorite moments was seeing a group of students—including some who usually shy away from physical activity—working together to create their own game using the new balls. It was a perfect example of how play fosters creativity, cooperation, and inclusion.

    Next up, we're introducing a new unit focused on cooperative games, where students will use these balls to develop teamwork, problem-solving skills, and sportsmanship. Thanks to you, they have the tools they need to succeed and enjoy every step of the way!

    Many people don't realize how important visuals are in physical education, but for my students—especially English language learners and those who thrive with visual instructions—these materials have been a game-changer. With your support, I've been able to print station signs, skill breakdowns, step-by-step movement guides, and game instructions that help students stay engaged and confident in every lesson.

    The most exciting part for my students? Being able to see exactly what they need to do without feeling lost or confused. One of my newer students, who speaks very little English, now navigates activities independently by following the printed visuals. Seeing his confidence grow has been truly inspiring!

    The cone covers with numbers and pockets have completely transformed how my students navigate activities. Whether they're following visual task cards for skill-building stations or using numbered cones for movement challenges, these resources have helped all learners—especially my English language learners and students who benefit from visual supports—feel more confident and independent in class.

    The custom dice have been an absolute hit! My students love rolling them to determine exercises, skills, and challenges, adding a fun and interactive twist to our lessons. This has been a game-changer for differentiated learning, allowing students to progress at their own pace while still feeling included in every activity. One student, who often hesitates to participate, now eagerly rolls the dice to see what's next—it's amazing to see how a small tool can make such a big difference!

  • Building Bridges Through Cricket: A Call for Support

    I cannot thank you enough for your support in bringing this project to life! Because of your generosity, my students now have the resources they need to engage in physical education in a way that is inclusive, empowering, and fun.

    When we unboxed our new cricket equipment, the excitement in the room was electric. My students—many of whom are new English learners and refugees—couldn't believe that they now had the gear to play a sport that reminds some of them of home while introducing it to their peers. Their faces lit up with joy as they picked up the bats, held the balls, and imagined the games they would play together. One student even said, *"Now we can really play as a team!"*

    Since receiving the equipment, we have been using it daily in PE class to teach teamwork, communication, and confidence. It has helped break language barriers, as students from different backgrounds work together, learning not just the rules of the game but also valuable life skills. Seeing them collaborate, cheer each other on, and grow more confident with each practice session has been truly inspiring.

    The next step? We're working toward organizing our first all-inclusive cricket match! This will be an opportunity for my students to put their skills into action, invite their peers to join, and continue building a sense of belonging through sport. Thanks to you, they now have the tools to make this happen.

  • Soccer Goals for Setting Goals!

    I wanted to take a moment to personally thank you for your incredible generosity in supporting our *Soccer Goals for Setting Goals!* project. Thanks to you, my students now have the resources they need to learn in a fun and meaningful way, and it's already making such a difference.

    The soccer goals have quickly become a favorite in our class. Not only are the kids learning soccer skills, but they're also using these moments to practice setting and achieving goals. It's been amazing to watch them work together as a team and celebrate their progress, whether it's a successful goal in the game or simply improving their passing.

    One moment I'll never forget was when we first introduced the new soccer goals. The kids' faces lit up! They couldn't wait to get started, and it instantly sparked a sense of excitement and motivation in them. It was like a lightbulb went off—they realized that by setting goals, working hard, and staying focused, they could really see the results of their efforts. That moment was a reminder of how powerful these kinds of experiences are in shaping how students approach challenges.

    Since then, I've seen them apply this goal-setting mindset in so many ways. They're beginning to set academic goals, support each other, and celebrate their individual growth. It's amazing how something as simple as a soccer goal has encouraged them to think bigger about their future.

    Looking ahead, we plan to keep building on this momentum. We'll continue using soccer as a tool for teaching teamwork, goal-setting, and resilience, and we're excited to see how these lessons will carry over into other areas of their lives. I can already tell that this project is helping them grow in ways I never imagined.

  • Personal PE Equipment for my k-2 kids

    Funded Dec 2, 2020

    During the COVID-19 pandemic, personal PE equipment played a vital role in helping students maintain physical activity while learning remotely. With gyms and schools closed, students used equipment like jumprope, bounce balls, and beanbags to stay active at home. This allowed them to engage in regular exercise, helping to reduce the negative effects of inactivity and improve their overall health during lockdowns.

    Beyond physical benefits, personal PE equipment also supported students' mental well-being. Regular exercise helped alleviate stress, anxiety, and the isolation many felt during the pandemic. It kept students engaged in learning through virtual PE lessons and fostered a sense of independence as they created their own fitness routines. Overall, personal PE equipment contributed to both physical health and mental resilience, helping students cope with the challenges of remote learning.

Here at PS 119, we are fortunate to have a shared indoor space with 6 basketball hoops built into the space. The room is spacious enough, with room for improvement. One day we hope to have a real wood gym floor instead of the tiles we have now, but we were fortunate enough to have the old tiles replaced recently and now have a floor that doesn't lift up and is no longer a hazard! The kids love our gym and are learning to respect themselves, each other, and their place in my classroom.
