  • Let's Get Together!!!

    Funded Dec 16, 2016

Thank you so very much for the fabulous rug! The class was excited about it from the moment that they saw it. This rug is used all day long, from morning meeting at the beginning of the day until choice time at the end of the day!

During the day, we have several class "meetings." The students love to pick a letter to sit on. They talk to each other about words that begin with their chosen letter. After students finish math or reading activities, they are able to choose learning games, and the rug is the perfect spot to relax and learn. It is also perfect for cuddling up with a good book.

    Thanks again for your generosity!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Feenstra

  • Mentor Books for Reading Workshop!

    Funded Sep 28, 2015

Thank you so much for your generous donation toward class books! These books are mentor texts for a great new Reading Workshop that I am using. My students love the stories, and it helps to motivate them to become better readers!

We use these books in so many ways! On some days they are used to retell a story. We also use them to learn new reading strategies, such as using picture or meaning clues, or rereading to make sense. I have a class that loves to read books again and again, and this helps them to read more fluently. Recently, we have been working on book reviews, and giving our opinions of books. These books are perfect!!

Again, thank you so much for your generosity!!”

  • Time To Get Organized!

    Funded Nov 20, 2014

Thank you so much for helping our classroom become more organized! My students especially love the fancy new Centers board that keeps track of what activity they should be doing. My students enjoy the independence of self monitoring their tasks. The lovely chart stand holds poems and word activities and is sturdy and convenient. The small chart stand is perfect during reading groups, and the multiple charts that go with it make it easy for me to be ready for several groups at once for differentiation. It 's time saving and my students love to use them for sorting and matching words and letters.

Thank you, thank you for improving our learning environment!”

  • Listening AND Learning!!

    Funded Sep 16, 2014

Thank you so much for the fabulous CD and book sets! They are a big hit during our Centers time every afternoon. Students are able to choose from several books, and listen to the story as they follow along in the book. When they finish listening, they have the chance to write about the story. Currently, their book responses are tied in to our opinion writing unit. Students write their opinion of the book, give three reasons why they feel that way, and restate their opinion. Perfect connection, and they love it!

    Thank you!!!!”

  • Learning on the Go!

    Funded Nov 20, 2014

Wow!!! This is such an easy thank you letter to write!! My students LOVE the new easel. It has been a great addition to our classroom! We use the easel everyday. Currently, on one side, students are building word family words with magnets and writing them (cat, hat, bat). On the other side students are able to build or write the high frequency words that they are practicing. It is a huge hit!!! There are always students waiting to have their turn! This easel has helped my students to be even more excited about their learning.

During our writing workshop, we are writing opinion pieces. We went for a trip down the hall to another classroom, and the students were able to compare our easel with one from another class. How funny that when all was said and done, it was a tie between the two easels!!! The writing that the students did was thoughtful and authentic. Perfect!!

What a gift!! Thank you so much!!!!”

  • Reading for Fun!! Reading for Life!!

    Funded Nov 5, 2013

Thank you so much for funding the fabulous books that are now in the hands of happy students!! My class is thrilled to have more books to read and enjoy. Many of the books were nonfiction, and they were instrumental in helping my class to write their very own "All About" books. Also, my class loves their independent reading book bags. The added books to our library are always chosen for their bags!

My class is working hard and loving their learning. Thanks to your generosity, the students have more books to read and inspire!!”

  • Write Right!!

    Funded Feb 6, 2012

Thank you so much for donating to my DonorsChoose project! The clipboards and magnetic white boards have become an integral part of my classroom.

The students practice their spelling words each week using magnetic letters on the white boards to make the words, check and read them, then mix up the letters, and do it all again. They are also able to practice writing their letters on the white boards. I am noticing that more students are able to get 100% of their spelling words correct at the end of each week. I am certain it is due in part to the fun activity of making the words with the magnetic letters on the white boards. The white boards are often used for free drawing and writing/phonics activities as well.

The clipboards are used by students when they want to do their work on the rug or outside during observations and outdoor classroom activities. The students love using them!

I am so very grateful for your donations. Thank you so much!!”

  • What Could Be Better Than Magnetic Letters?

    Funded Jan 7, 2012

Thank you so much for donating to my DonorsChoose project! The magnetic letter sets have become an integral part of the spelling and phonics programs in my classroom. The students practice their spelling words each week using the magnetic letters to make the words, check and read them, then mix up the letters, and do it all again. I am noticing that more students are able to get 100% of their spelling words correct at the end of each week. I am certain it is due in part to the fun activity of making the words with the magnetic letters.

The students can also be seen during free choice times using the magnetic letters to make each others' names, produce "word ladders," or play a version of "hangman."

I am so very grateful for your donations. Thank you so much!!”

Our school is in the inner city. We have many low income and English Language learners. Due to budget constraints, our classroom finances are incredibly tight. My classroom community is built around kindness. We pledge to be kind every morning and celebrate these acts with our "Tree of Kindness." Students are asked to write their name on a leaf, snowflake, or flower depending on the season. Our classroom is literacy rich. We strive to be better readers and writers every day. We read independently, with partners and as a class. We love to enjoy great books and study the author's work to improve our own writing. I am grateful to DonorsChoose. Through your help, I have been able to enrich the lives of many students and continue to do so. Thanks to all of you for your support.
