  • On the Go Learning!!

    Funded Aug 11, 2020

Thank you so much! In this unprecedented time, I am so grateful to be able to send necessary materials home to my students. It has made such a difference in their days of remote learning. For me, I am comforted knowing that each student has the supplies that they need to learn from home.

Parents have also been in touch to say that they are also very appreciative. In a time of stress and unrest, we are lucky to have one less thing to worry about! Thank you so much for your generosity at this time!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Feenstra

  • Learning From Home!

    Funded May 3, 2020

Thank you so much for the learning from home supplies! It is a gift that keeps giving. I have been able to use some items last year as well as this school year!

Thanks to you, my students have crayons, pencils and paper, and more, making it so much easier for them to do school work and continue learning, no matter where they are!

As we continue on this new way of learning, I am grateful to have plentiful supplies for my littles, it takes one very important thing off my plate of worries. I can't thank you enough!!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Feenstra

  • Lucky Literary Listeners!

    Funded Feb 13, 2020

While we were still in school, we were just beginning to use the wonderful CD players during our afternoon reading time. The class was so happy to have many wonderful books to access in this way.

At this time of remote learning, we are doing lots of listening to books and then writing about the text. We are practicing retelling, giving our opinion, sequencing, and much more! This will be great practice for when we return to our beloved classroom, and can listen on the CD players once again. Thanks so much for your generosity. It is greatly appreciated!”

  • Learning on the Go!!!

    Funded Nov 21, 2019

Thank you so much for your generosity! My class loves the new easel!! We use it all day long!

The day begins with a message of the day. The students are able to practice fluency, phonics work, and read what is happening each day! Later, we use the easel for showing charts for writing. Students can check the anchor charts to frame their writing, use resource words, and get more ideas! In the afternoon, the easel is used for building words with magnetic letters and practicing our phonics!

The wheels make it easy to glide around the room, to be used wherever it is the most convenient. We love our easel! Thanks so much!!!”

  • Help Us Stand and Be Smart!

    Funded Mar 27, 2018

Thank you so much for your generous donation!! Thanks to having this stand, my class is now able to utilize an amazing Smart Board received from another Donors Choose project. The smart board has especially enhanced our math lessons. I am able to put our math book pages on to the board, students can then approach the board and write their work, describe their thinking, and then give their answer!! In addition, we do some fun lessons called Math Talk. The students are asked to count certain objects in the quickest, most efficient ways possible. The Smart Board has made this fun exercise more exciting and easier to share our counting ideas.

Thanks so much for making this possible!”

  • Smartboard Smart!

    Funded Jan 25, 2018

Thank you so much for your incredible generosity!! It is so wonderful to have a smart board in my room! The students love going up to the board to write on it! It has made many math lessons especially exciting! I feel fortunate to have such a state of the art piece in my classroom.

Students are now able to follow a math lesson, then they may go up to the problems that we are working on, on the math book page, and show their work and write their answers. In addition, we do fun lessons called math talks. The students are able to, once again, show their work on the board explain their thinking for all to see!

    Thanks so much!!!”

  • Reading Matters!

    Funded Nov 27, 2017

Thank you so much for your generous donation! This project helped to complete my goal of having guided reading book sets for all of the levels taught in first grade. This book set is the very beginning readers level and is very important for use with the many English Language learners that I have in my class. I am so happy to have quality books to teach my early readers. These books are interesting and colorful, and that makes my students excited to read them. Thank you for helping make my job easier and more fun!!”

  • Time to Learn While Playing!

    Funded Nov 18, 2017

Thank you so much! This project is one of the most fun that we have had funded! My students are completely engaged in learning how to ask questions through the great games in this project. It has made a huge impact already with some of my students who rarely speak out loud. Now they are actively participating in asking and answering questions!! In addition, these games are helping my students to learn categories, such as animal, transportation, and food. Who knew that learning could be so much fun!”

  • We Love Reading With a Friend!

    Funded Nov 18, 2017

Thank you for your generosity! We love reading Winnie the Pooh and Peter Rabbit books with our stuffed friends! My students are excited to get their word work done, knowing that as soon as it is completed they are able to read with a great stuffy character. Many of them especially love the Beatrix Potter books and all of the beloved characters in the series.

At quiet reading time in our classroom, observers enjoy seeing the room full of quiet readers, all snuggling with characters from so many of the favorite books in our library. It is motivating and so fun!

    Thanks so much!!”

Our school is in the inner city. We have many low income and English Language learners. Due to budget constraints, our classroom finances are incredibly tight. My classroom community is built around kindness. We pledge to be kind every morning and celebrate these acts with our "Tree of Kindness." Students are asked to write their name on a leaf, snowflake, or flower depending on the season. Our classroom is literacy rich. We strive to be better readers and writers every day. We read independently, with partners and as a class. We love to enjoy great books and study the author's work to improve our own writing. I am grateful to DonorsChoose. Through your help, I have been able to enrich the lives of many students and continue to do so. Thanks to all of you for your support.
