Kindergarten Makerspace
Funded Mar 19, 2016When all of the resources were delivered to my classroom, we were instantly making and creating! As soon as the boxes arrived, we quickly opened them and my students were so excited to learn how to use each material. We had a quick lesson and quickly broke into groups to rotate through the various resources. My students were building bridges, cars and houses and loved learning with the OSMO.
After every student had the opportunity to use each different material for our Makerspace, I put all of the resources into a defined spaced in our classroom. Our Makerspace was official born! My students were free to go to this area during free time, workstations and when they finished with their work. They were so busy creating and teaching me new ways to build. They problem solved and worked together to build things of their imaginations!
Because of your generosity, my students had access to our Makerspace every day. You have changed the learning environment in my classroom for years to come. I am so excited to start this next school year with my Makerspace and continue to add to it. Thank you for your support and believing in this project! On behalf of some of the cutest kindergarten kids, we thank you from the bottom of our hearts!

Funded Mar 3, 2016WOW! This project exceeded my expectations. I could not believe all of the resources that came with this EcoSTEM kit. There were enough materials for every student to have a part in creating our class garden. We had the most fun with this project!
These materials came at the perfect time as we were beginning our plant and insect unit. It was so neat for my students to learn how and why it is important to protect butterflies. Throughout the entire project my students were so excited to come to school everyday. In the morning they would check our butterfly habitat to look for change and be sure to let me know of anything happening. They would peek out the the window to look for growth in our classroom garden. They loved using magnifying glasses to observe the growth. They were amazed at how tall the sunflowers grew in such a short period of time.
My students learned so much during this project and the majority of this hands-on learning was outside. I could not have asked for a better learning experience for my students! Thank you for making this project possible for my students. Not only did you make it possible for my students this year but I will be able to continue to use all of the garden tools for many classes to come. On behalf of the sweetest kindergarten kids I know, we thank you from the bottom of our hearts!”

Funded Mar 11, 2016The arrival of these Hokki Stools were much anticipated in our classroom. The box was actually delivered over the weekend and our amazing custodian had opened the boxes and had them sitting at a table waiting for us to use Monday morning. So imagine my students' shock when they arrived early in the morning to find 4 more Hokki Stools were in our classroom! They were quickly asking who could use the stools 1st thing in the morning.
Due to your generosity, our classroom now has 8 Hokki Stools that can be used throughout the day. There is no more "fighting" over who gets to use these stools when they meet with me during small group because there is enough for everyone to use! Since, only 6 stools are needed during small group time that leaves 2 extra stools to be used by students that are completing their independent centers. When we are not in small groups, the students are free to choose any type of seating that they prefer and of course the Hokki Stools are always the 1st choice. It makes this teacher heart so happy to see so many students using these stools and actually able to focus because they are given the ability to move safely while learning.
I hope you have taken a minute to see their happy faces in the pictures below! I so wish I was able to share more with you. On behalf of my very wiggly kindergarten students, we thank you from the bottom of our hearts. You will always have a special place in our classroom!”

This classroom project was brought to life by #BestSchoolDay and 43 other donors.Boogie On Down the "Write" Way!
Funded Mar 20, 2016WOW! From the day these Boogie Boards funded, my students were asking every morning if the box had arrived. Imagine their surprise, when our school custodian knocked on our door and delivered a HUGE box to our classroom. We quickly made a circle on the carpet and opened the box. There were LOTS of cheers and excited kindergartners that day. Of course, we had to take a break and have a chance to "play" with these Boogie Boards. They felt so fancy and grown up writing on these electronic Boogie Boards and I was so happy to chunk our dirty, torn up dry erase boards.
These Boogie Boards have been a life saver for whole group instruction, small group instruction and workstations. We have already completed many math problems using our Boogie Boards to show our answers while sitting on the carpet. It was wonderful, that every student had their own board to show their work! During small group time, students have been using their boards write sight words, unknown words in texts and play different games to learn new words. The Play & Trace Boogie Boards have been a great tool to place over different texts and highlight sight words. I am most excited to have these boards at the beginning of next year for students to use to practice tracing their name! These Boogie Boards have been used every day since the package arrived and my students will continue to use these Boogie Boards for years to come!
I hope you have enjoyed looking at the pictures that I have been able to share. I SO wish I could share more! On behalf of my students, thank you again from the bottom of our hearts for allowing us to "Boogie" every day! You will always have a special place in our classroom.”

Funded Dec 18, 2015Words cannot even describe the excitement in our classroom when these Hokki Stools arrived. There were LOTS of ooohs and ahhhhs. Of course, every child wanted the opportunity to sit on a stool and get the full experience. As their teacher, I happily obliged and gave each student a chance to try it out within minutes of the stools being delivered to our classroom. They were beyond thrilled!
Before I wrote this project, I was reading many articles and blogs that describe how helpful these stools were for our active students. I could not wait to receive them to put them to the test with my extra wiggly students that had difficulty focusing. These stools not only passed the test but passed with flying colors. It is amazing to watch a student who had difficulty sitting, to now be able to actually focus and complete their work.
My students are given many choices throughout the day for where they would like to sit. These stools are always the first pick for independent reading and small group stations. In fact, we have had to create some "rules" for the stools so everyone can have the opportunity to use a Hokki Stool. My students love having the ability to move safely while working and I, as their teacher, love that I am able to give them that choice!
These stools are much more expensive than regular chairs and I would not have been able to afford these stools without your generous donation to our classroom. Your generosity has allowed my students to become more focused learners. Thank you for supporting #FarrsClassroom!”

Brainy Bulldogs Want to Build!
Funded Jun 27, 2015Oh wow! I wish you could be in my classroom and see how much the students have not only LOVED these materials but be able to listen to their thought process as they have been designing and building. We have been able to use this bundle all throughout the school year and will continue for the rest of the year!
This STEM bundle has an option for every student to be able to find something that they enjoy. One of the best aspects about this STEM bundle is that is correlates so well with our standards and my students want to design and build. They have LOVED creating a bridge for the Billy Goats to cross, a chair for each bear and a house that will not blow over from the big bad wolf. It is interest based learning at its best!
As my students have explored each STEM kit, it has then been placed into our STEM area. This is a popular area that my students are able to freely choose when they finish their work and during free center play. This is by FAR one of their FAVORITE resources to use in our classroom. They absolutely LOVE showing off their designs and even helping others when they just can't get it to work, collaboration at its finest! Thank you for supporting #FarrsClassroom as you have made an impact in each of my students lives.”

Funded Dec 30, 2015WOW! This box of materials could not have come at a better time. When we left before Christmas Break, we were having many conversations on how we could make our pencils and glue last longer. Several students were sharing materials so we could continue to work and create fun craft projects. So when the box was delivered to our classroom it was like a late Christmas gift for room 117!
Thanks to your generosity I was able to give each student a brand new pencil, a glue stick and place the markers in our classroom sharing bucket. They were SO excited and cheering. I even heard some say "it was the best gift ever!" We are back in the swing of learning and working so hard. We have completed writing lessons about America and solved math problems involving penguins! All of my students were also able to create fun art projects to match their writing!
Please be sure to check out the pictures of my students below using the materials that you helped purchase. I am extremely grateful that you chose our classroom to replenish our basic supplies. Thank you so much for being a part of the DonorsChoose Community and now a part of our classroom! #ItMatters #FarrsClassroom”

This classroom project was brought to life by Quill and 5 other donors.Shark Tank: K5
Funded Jun 5, 2015These materials from this project are used daily! My students have LOVED being owners of a pizza shop, apple store and grocery store to name a few. They had so much fun designing ideas for different products to sell and to convince their classmates how our dramatic play area should be transformed!
It has been an unbelievable asset to our classroom. They have begun to learn about money and why it is important to spend money wisely. It is so much fun to watch them work the cash register and tell their friends how much they owe. Then to watch the transaction to take place is priceless.
My students are learning lifetime skills because of the opportunity that PwC provided for my students. I am beyond grateful! Thank you so much for supporting my students!”

This classroom project was brought to life by PwC Charitable Foundation, Inc. and 4 other donors.Choose to Reuse!
Funded Jun 8, 2015WOW!!! This project exceeded my expectations and the students really enjoyed it. Even though we could not take a trip to the beach to learn about ocean animals, the materials that were purchased because of you made this project highly effective.
The students loved learning about sea animals through the books and also through the Sea Life Theme Box. They were able to manipulate 3D replicas of sea animals and the importance of ocean animals. They really enjoyed feeling the jaw of a stingray and catching a crab! Throughout this project, I heard many students state that they wanted to keep these animals safe so they will not go extinct.
Learning about how trash at the beach effects animals really made some of my students sad and they want it to stop. They were so excited when I showed them simple solutions and changes we can make to help keep plastic bags away from the beaches. Thank you so much for helping to provide reusable tote bags for all of my students to decorate. They could not wait to go home and show these bags to their parents. Many of the parents even told me that they needed to start bringing reusable bags to the grocery store. I call that SUCCESS!
Thank you for helping to make this project a reality. I truly believe as we continue to educate our young students on the importance of saving our beaches, our beaches will be here for their children to enjoy. Please be sure to take a moment and check out the pictures below showing the project in action! Without donors like you, this project would not have been possible. Thank you SO much!”

Funded Aug 6, 2015Oh how I wish you could have seen my students eyes when these materials arrived! There was lots of ooohing and aching! We started brainstorming right away lots of different ideas and books we would create. They had a long list of ideas full of silly and scary books!
Each student first started by creating their very own alphabet book. We read many different alphabet books for them to understand the set up of an alphabet book. This was the perfect project for kindergrtners to start with as we were learning our ABC's. They loved being able to be the author and illustrator of their book. And the best part was when they were able to show off these books and read them to their parents at conferences!!
They will now be able to begin to brainstorm their own story ideas and begin writing during workshop time. I cannot wait to read the books that they create. Thank you for helping to spark an interest in writing for my students!!!!!”
