  • Disarray, Be Gone!

    Funded Aug 22, 2018

We were so excited to receive our boxes of goodies! Words cannot express the gratitude I feel for you kindness, thoughtfulness and generosity.

I have transitioned to flexible seating this year; my students do not have desks. I was not sure how it would work without desks for my kids. With your help, it has worked out fabulously! When they realized the bins would be their "mobile" desks, they were thrilled! One student asked if they were going to get (mobile) phones, too. (Hehe. Second graders are a riot.) When we put the labels on the bins with their names - that was a game changer. They have taken total ownership and pride in their bins! They want to wipe them down, keep them clean and have even take eraser to them when there are stray pencil marks.

Again, I cannot thank you enough for helping us keep organized and structured!”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. Gaffield

  • Full STEM Ahead

    Funded Sep 18, 2018

It’s early Sunday evening and I just discovered my project was funded!! (Happy dance.) I am really excited to have my students expiore their new center. It mirrors the phenomena we will be studying. With the year underway, the new colored pencils and markers are a welcome addition, in many cases - a total replacement.

I can’t thank you all enough! My work week has not yet started, but it’s off to a spectacular “pre-start.” I hope your week will be equally incredible.

    Peace.”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. Gaffield

  • Adjusting to Flexible Seating

    Funded May 15, 2018

My students were thrilled when we opened the packages! You have helped tremendously alter our classroom with your generosity and kindness. My students are completely taking advantage of all the new seating in the classroom. The seating is allowing my students to choose a space most comfortable to them to work at any given time of the day. More than that, the seating is fun; students are bouncing, wobbling, rolling or climbing on their seat. My students get to keep their little bodies busy while they are learning. It's a win/win! You are simply amazing! Thank you a million times over. Peace. Love. Laughter.”

  • Leveling the "Playing Field" with a Leveled Library

    Funded Dec 14, 2017

Thank you so much for your donations and your generosity! My students were completely excited when we received our box; their "oohs" and "aahs" were plentiful as we unpacked it.

I use the Reader's and Writer's Workshop model to teach literacy. Having a variety of books at each reading level ensures my students are getting the maximum benefit from reading. Depending on the lesson, students read their books through different lenses, for example, looking for the plot, character study, or understating how an author was able create a mood. Regardless of a child's reading level, all things are possible as long as they have text which makes the curriculum accessible, which you have just helped do for them.

Again, I thank you and my students thank you. We wish you peace and happiness.”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. Gaffield

  • Look! Books!

    Funded Aug 9, 2017

I tried to snap their moments of joy as my students were open packages of books from you! They were so excited!! very cool and a great way to start the year. Thank you!

As we begin Reader's Workshop, all of my students have a variety of books at their reading level, as we work around reading and comprehension skills. My class will will be studying setting and characters and why they are relevant to the story. We will also learn about plots, morals and lessons the book teach.

We are going to be studying authors...or their "moves," rather. We'll be delving into the varieties of writing styles, how to use quotation marks, and use onomatopoeia (That's just a fun word to say!), where to use captions, and labels, parentheses and... BOOM! The books they've been able to read in Reader's Workshop [because the text is at their reading level (That point is so important.)], become their models for Writer's Workshop as we begin our work developing skilled authors.

You've done an amazing thing. Thank you.

    Peace.”

  • From Ragged to Rug(ged)

    Funded Jan 30, 2012

My sincerest and deepest apologies for the long over due "Thank you." My students LOVE the rug. When we were unrolling it, screams of "It's so pretty!" to "It's so clean!" to probably my favorite, "It smells weird." Along with our colorful cushions, it provides comfort and warmth to our classroom and our community.

We are constantly on the rug. During Community Meeting, Math, Writer's Workshop, Reader's... It is a great gathering space. But it doubles as a place for students to feel comfortable working; some of my students prefer working on the floor opposed to their desks. Now, they've a clean, plush and purple place to do it.

    Thank you so very much!”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. Gaffield
