We will encourage the four Cs of 21st Century Skills: communication, collaboration, critical thinking, and creativity. Each of these skills is essential to music education. Ukuleles are perfect for teaching these in the classroom because they are a solo instrument, an ensemble instrument as well as one that can have vocals added to its accompaniment. Students will be able to express themselves, compose their own works, as well as perform solo or with a group.
With ukuleles, students will problem-solve and communicate with peers, all while having fun in music class! We will begin the curriculum with 5th grade and 7th grade general music, so all the students in our elementary building should eventually have access to an instrument.
