"You can't use up creativity. The more you use, the more you have." - Maya Angelou
Allowing children to create, opens their minds to new things, new understanding, and new possibilities. Incorporating art in all subjects makes the material come alive and become memorable. The goal of my project is to open a new medium for my students.
Up to this point, we have relied on crayons, markers, and colored pencils. This project will bring paint to the classroom. I have requested gallon size primary colors, white, and black paint with pumps. Students will be able to blend and mix colors to make secondary colors and vary the hue. I have also requested a class set of brushes and messy mats, paint trays, and a drying rack. The mats trays and drying rack will be utilized in many way beyond paint projects. The non-consumables will be used for many years, benefiting not only my current 15 students but those to come as well.
I will continue to incorporate art into all subject areas. Students can paint spelling words and sight words, illustrate vocabulary words, make anchor charts, and create pictures of story elements. They can practice math facts, make paint models to solve math problems, and illustrate their knowledge in science and social studies. They will also have time to experiment and create simply for the purpose of exploring their own creativity.
I want to open up new opportunities for my students to show their creativity, make connections, and develop confidence in their ability to do new things, create new things, and think new things. The next generation of creators are here!
