Overcoming Dyslexia
Funded Oct 25, 2019Oh my goodness, I am learning SO much through this professional development opportunity! I get to have constant access to a coach who consistently guides me as I submit lesson plans and videos. I love all the support and guidance she gives me...my reading instruction is constantly improving and my students are thriving! They love all the activities and lessons we do. This practicum is so much work, but WOW, there are so many benefits! Thank you so much for helping me on this journey. It feels amazing to have the support of others. Funded Oct 30, 2019Wow, I am so thankful for this opportunity! Thank you so much for supporting me in my professional development endeavors! The practicum opportunity I am participating in is incredibly beneficial! Each week I write lesson plans and am able to get immediate feedback and advice. I also record and submit videos of me teaching these lesson plans. It is so valuable to have a coach helping me as I implement the structured literacy techniques I have learned. I can tell I am much more effective as a teacher. My students are growing each day and I can see such huge improvement with them. They enjoy our small group, multi-sensory work and are simply thriving. Thank you so much for believing in and supporting me! This practicum is sooo much work, but I am so grateful to have the chance. Thanks again!”

Funded Oct 4, 2019I am so thankful to Chevron Fuel Your School! Thank you so much to Chevron and to all the people who support Chevron. This was such a fun project to have funded because it's providing my students with so many engaging activities! The SumBlox are a HUGE hit. Currently it's one of the most popular selections in our "Explore" center. Students have loved building and manipulating these number blocks. As our number awareness grows, they will learn how these blocks are proportional to the numbers they represent. I can't wait until we begin learning the ways to make 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, and 10 and I can show them how the blocks can help us visualize these concepts.
Another HUGE hit is the liquid tiles! What a fun and mesmerizing sensory activity. Students love walking on these tiles and watching the liquid under them. It's also very calming.
Some of the items I am saving for the spring! We will be able to plant seeds, learn about life cycles, excavate dinosaurs and more! I could never provide such amazing opportunities without the help of Chevron and Donors Choose! Thank you!”

Funded Sep 2, 2019Wow, I had so many people contribute to this project and I am so incredibly thankful for each and every donation! These are such high-quality materials and are such a fun addition to our classroom. We love the puppets! Students have started exploring with them...and their faces instantly light up when they get to play with them. I can't wait until we officially start our fairy tales unit and can retell the stories using these puppets. We also love our Chicka Chicka Boom Boom Tree! Every day that we learn a new letter, we add it onto the tree! The students love it and are always excited to see who gets to put the letter on the tree. Again, thank you so much to our donors! It feels wonderful to have such great support for our classroom! Thank you!”

Funded Sep 11, 2019We really love these alphabet pebbles! My students were instantly interested and excited when I put them in their "Word Work" tubs. Most of my students work on matching these stones to an alphabet chart. Others like to put them in abc order. Some of my students who are already familiar with all the letter sounds, are able to start building CVC words with them. Another favorite activity is to build their own names! I love that there is such a variety of ways we can use these materials. Thank you so much for your contribution to our classroom!”

Help Us Write the Right Way
Funded Aug 13, 2019We are loving all our writing materials! Thank you so much for providing these for us! The first thing I did, when I got the materials, was watch the teacher training DVD. I found it so informative and helpful as I begin to plan my writing lessons. After viewing the DVD, I began to put together the writing binders for my students. They are so helpful in keeping us organized and helping move our lessons along at a quick pace. The students really like having ownership of their own binder. Thank you so much for supporting my classroom and my students! I am incredibly grateful to you!”

Funded May 13, 2019Thank you so much for your generous contribution to our classroom! We are so happy to have these magnet letter manipulatives to use as we learn to read and spell.
We got these materials at the very end of the last school year. So my class from last year was just able to use them the last week of school. It was fun to see their engagement as they practiced spelling CVC words.
Now school has started, and I've begun using them with my new class. My kindergartners are just learning the alphabet...so we practice our letter recognition with these magnets. Additionally, I teach reading intervention groups for 1st and 3rd grades. They have really enjoyed using these to supplement our lessons. It brings a great multi-sensory component.
It's always fun to bring new, multi-sensory activities to my students. I wouldn't be able to provide these without your contribution. I am so incredibly thankful to you and your support! Thank you!”

Funded Mar 26, 2019We have been having so much fun with our new STEM materials! They are such a neat addition to our light table. Students have loved making designs with pattern blocks on the light table, and adding the mirror adds a whole new dimension (quite literally) to their designs! The x-rays are a huge hit and the students love examining them on the light table. We have started using the Goldilocks Stem kit and it gives them a wonderful challenge. I think the "Translucent Imagination Builders" might be the class favorite, though. They have loved building creations with those and of course, taking pictures to share in the Seesaw app with their parents. Thank you so much to everyone who supported, donated, and shared this project! I feel so lucky and incredibly thankful!”

Ready, Set, Read! Part 2
Funded Nov 30, 2018I am simply overwhelmed with gratitude to you all for donating to my project! It means so much to me and my students to have your support! It truly has such a big impact on our classroom!
We have starting using these books in our small reading groups. I pull 4-5 students back to my reading table at a time. During these small reading groups, we do several activities to work on phonemic awareness, phonics, and sight words. Then we put our skills to use by reading these books! The students just love these readers and this is their favorite part of our small group lesson. The books are decodable which means that students can practice blending the sounds of the letters they know together to create words. No guessing required! The words are controlled so that students won't encounter sounds they haven't learned yet.
I love that I can differentiate my reading groups...some groups are farther along and ready for the harder books and others are reading the simpler ones. Everyone can feel success as they read but they are also challenged appropriately. Today one of my students exclaimed with delight, "Mrs. Kemeny! I can read this book!" He was so excited and was ready to burst with pride. I was so incredibly happy for him.
The stories in these books are very interesting and the illustrations are just adorable. You can see in my photos how each student is focused and engaged. The stories and pictures draw them in and keep their attention!
Thank you again for providing these books for my classroom! We love them!”

Ready, Set, Read!
Funded Oct 17, 2018I can not even begin to describe how thankful I am to you! I am so incredibly grateful for the books you funded! These books are very high-quality and engaging and most importantly, they are decodable! As we have started working with these books, I see that I am actually teaching my kindergrtners to READ instead of just looking at the pictures and GUESSING...as is the case with many other predictable, leveled texts. These decodable books are going to make my students such awesome readers and give them a strong base that will help them throughout the years. Thank you so much for believing and investing in me!”
