  • Stained Glass Teaches Chemistry Students

    Funded May 8, 2011

Thank you everyone for your gracious and very appreciated donation! With your help, I'm going to be able to bring the art of stained glass to my chemistry students next fall.

As you can see in my pictures, this year I've had an amazing group of students who have completed many different projects with me. Next year, I have a feeling the kids are going to be even better! Stained glass is a medium that few kids get to work with, but they find fascinating, interesting, and beautiful.

Thank you for helping me bring so many different opportunities to such a deserving group of students!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Cushing

  • AP Chemistry Needs Lab Materials

    Funded May 3, 2011

Thank you for donating the AP lab materials! You have given me confidence that I can provide my students a quality lab experience!

You can see by my students how excited they are to take AP Chemistry next year! I currently have over 60 students signed up! These lab materials will really help to jump start my program.

With the materials you have donated, my students are going to have the chance to analyze data, draw conclusions, and truly prepare for science at the college level. Thank you for your generosity!”

  • Books For a Classroom Library

    Funded May 5, 2011

Thank you for your generous donation to my classroom library! My shelves are getting so full that I may have to get another bookcase!

My students have been very excited to see books come in over the last few weeks. There's something about a brand new book that gets their attention. Since I chose culturally appropriate and age appropriate texts- often times these are books the students have heard about but haven't seen, or couldn't afford to buy. They even love when I let them borrow the book but specify, "Don't forget to return that one, I'm excited to read it myself!"

I can't wait to see books borrowed over the summer and hearing the stories in the fall about what the students felt about them. Thank you again. ”

  • Molecular Models Help Model Chemistry

    Funded May 3, 2011

Thank you so much for your generous donation of molecular models! My current students enjoyed using them and my future students will to!

With our year winding down, pulling out the models was a real treat after the state testing for my students. It was a joy to watch them work with them because they were making models of compounds we haven't discussed in awhile!

I am looking forward to next year and saying goodbye to the days of sticky gummy bears and toothpicks. These new models are clean, colorful, and will be an asset to my students and my class.

Thank you again for your generosity!”

  • My Students Need to Read!

    Funded Jan 23, 2011

Thank you so much for your generous donation of books to my classroom! As you can see from their faces, my students appreciate them as much as I do.

Today in class we were having a class discussion and a student asked about Marie Curie. I was able to give them one of the books you donated to research about her life further. She was able to share what she learned with the entire class.

The AP Prep books will be really helpful as I prepare to teach AP Chemistry next semester.

Thank you again for your generous donation!”

  • A Classroom Library Can Inspire a Lifetime Love of Reading

    Funded Dec 21, 2010

Thank you so much for your generous donation of books to my classroom. Thanks to you, my students have books they can take home and read (and talk about with me!)

As soon as I opened up the boxes, it was like Christmas in my room. The books never even hit the shelves! Since then, I have so enjoyed discussing the books with my students and how they are enjoying reading them.

I have to be honest, I haven't even seen most of the books because as soon as a student is finished, another one grabs the book up before it hits my shelf. You can see how excited they are.

    Thank you again!”

  • Elephants Don't Have Toothpaste! (and Other Lab Supplies)

    Funded Dec 23, 2010

Thank you so much for your generous donation of laboratory materials to my classroom. Thanks to you, my students were able to explore the concepts of thermodynamics and reaction rates. With the thermochemistry kits, my students made different types of calorimeters and rusted steel wool! With the other materials, I was able to do an awesome demonstration called elephant toothpaste. The students faces say it all!

Thank you again for your contributions to my class. The students and I really appreciate it. ”

  • Tie Dye is Like Chromotography

    Funded Dec 23, 2010

Thank you so much for your generous donation! My students had a wonderful time tie dying their shirts and really experienced something they never have before!

Tie Dye was a wonderful way to end our unit in Chemistry on solutions. The students tie dyed shirts of their choice, even some teachers and the principal got involved! The experience was capped off by the students getting to wear their shirts proudly on the first day of the new semester!

This activity really allowed my students to see the real life connection between solutions and art, and I am truly grateful for this opportunity. Thank you for making it possible for my students!”

  • Etching Art With Hydrofluoric Acid In Chemistry Class

    Funded Aug 30, 2010

Thank you so much for your generous donation of glass etching kits to my classroom! What a wonderful way to integrate art into my classroom!

The students were amazed to learn that strong acid can permanently etch a mirror or piece of glass! It was also really neat to have them pull out their personal mirrors or make custom designs for their project.

The students really felt a sense of accomplishment and were so surprised when they learned they could take the mirrors home. I hope you enjoy the pictures I selected, and thank you again for your generous donation!”

    With gratitude,

  • My Kids Aren't Chemistry Dummies

    Funded Dec 23, 2010

I want to take a moment to thank you for your generous donation of Chemistry For Dummies books to my classroom. Its only the first week we have used them, and already I am noticing a difference.

After looking at the same boring, hard to read textbook week after week, my students are exciting for a change of pace. Also, I can tell they better understand the topics in this format. They even get the humor- one student looked at me with a smile and said, "Ms, I'm not a dummy!" He knew it was a play on words.

I cannot wait to explore new topics using these books and my students will love it too! Thank you again.”

    Ms. Cushing
