  • Calculators for Smart Chemistry Students

    Funded Dec 10, 2008

Wow! I am so excited that you funded my project! Having calculators available to my students really makes a difference when I am teaching them chemistry. I really appreciate your donation and cannot wait to use the calculators in my classroom when they arrive. Our school is year-round, and my students have January and February off, so starting a new semester in March with brand new calculators will be fantastic! Thank you, Thank you, Thank you”

  • SAT Prep Books For SMART Students

    Funded Dec 19, 2008

Thank you so much for your donation! What a wonderful holiday gift. I have gotten some prep books in my room before, and the students absolutely love to use them when they are preparing for college. They actually taken them home and use them on their weekends and vacations. This donation will have perfect timing. My students and I are on vacation from now until the beginning of March. The books will arrive just in time for my students to prepare for their AP exams and for me to bug my 11th graders to take some of their SAT II's in the spring. My kids don't have parents that understand about preparing for college, or what tests to take, or how to study and your gift will truly help me to play that role to them. Thank you”

  • Document Camera to Bring Chemistry to Life

    Funded Mar 3, 2009

April 8, 2009 Thank you so much for your generosity! You have no idea what kind of impact it has already started to make in my classroom. Most importantly, your donation of an ELMO document reader and LCD projector will impact my classroom for years to come. I teach in the downtown area of a large urban city. Our school has been open for almost four years now and it has been my sole teaching experience. It has been a wonderful time fueled with plenty of moments of both joy and frustration. I have taught Chemistry for those last four years and seen my own practice grow and develop. We had no materials when our school opened (we were told to order them half way into the year). We did not even have cabinets to store chemicals properly. But now I have begun to develop a curriculum where my students are practicing inquiry on a regular basis and are learning more in the process. Plus, they are getting excited about science. Supporting so many juniors and seniors, I have always wanted a document reader for my classroom. It has been a BLESSING. I no longer have to fight with the copy machine in the morning, worry about transparencies getting eaten in the printer, or have to show students things over and over again.

Recently, my students gave presentations on various scientists that have contributed to the world of Chemistry. Many groups used the ELMO in their presentations and it was a joy to watch them hard at work. Also, we have recently begun completing more difficult calculations. This is the first time I can put the calculator on the ELMO and project it for the whole class. I used to have to go table to table and help students learn how to perform the calculations. Now, I can show the entire class at once. This was my most surprising and one of the best uses for the technology so far.

My students really appreciate your donation and I can tell that it helps them to see how much I care about them and their learning. Thank you for supporting our classroom. My goal is to develop my students into curious individuals who enjoy solving problems, reading and practicing science. I hope you see the joy in their faces and in their words as much as I experience everyday. Again, thank you for your donation and know how wonderful it is for a young teacher and a group of students. ”
