These cd players and headphones will be used daily in my first grade classroom. Every day my students participate in guided reading. During this time, they have the choice to listen to books on cd. Listening to books on cd is great for developing fluency in their reading. These first graders will get to hear fluent reading as they listen to the book on cd. As they follow along in the book, they will learn one to one correspondence, how to decode words, and how to read fluently. Books on cd are especially beneficial for early readers who can't yet read fluently on their own. When early readers get to hear a book on cd, they will be able to practice many skills including reading comprehension, something they wouldn't be able to do reading on their own level. The listening center is one of my students favorite things to do during guided reading. I would like this project to be funded so that even more students can enjoy the benefits of the listening center.
