Let's Get Charged Up!
Funded Oct 12, 2016Thank you for your generous contribution! Prior to your contribution, our classroom had a mess of chargers and wires in the corner of our classroom. It was a constant effort--and a hassle!--to keep the computers neat and organized. Too often, the mess of wires would mean one or more computers would remain unplugged and wouldn't be charged and ready to go the next day. Now...it's a completely different scene. The charging station you helped us acquire keeps our computers nicely organized, charged, and ready to go. Thank you!”

Read into the Future
Funded Jul 15, 2016Thank you for your generous donation! Your contribution made it possible for me to stock our classroom library with a wide selection of high interest texts for students. All students in my classroom have made great learning gains in reading and this is in large part due to the fact that they have access to a well-stocked classroom library. Thank you so much for digging into your own pocket to contribute funds that made it possible for me to provide all my students with books that are level appropriate and of interest. Thank you!!!!”

What Do Owls Eat?
Funded Sep 13, 2016Thank you very much for your generous donation. The two owl pellet kits you helped to purchase for our classroom afforded my students an opportunity to engage in a hands-on, inquiry-based exploration. As you can see by the photographs I've uploaded, the students were super engaged and simply thrilled to pick through the owl pellets to discover what was inside. They worked together for hours to dissect the pellets, carefully clean the bones, and classify those bones on a bone chart. As they sorted through their data, they kept track of their findings on a tally table. Once they were finished the collection process they transferred the data to a frequency table. They then report on their findings by producing reports. They loved every minute of it. Thank you so much for making this possible!”

Snap into Engineering!
Funded Aug 5, 2016Dear Donors,
Thanks to you our school has been able to found its very first maker club. The club currently meets during lunch but will soon have to be made available after school in order to meet demand. EVERYONE wants to join! Students are unleashing their creative powers and exercising analytical thinking to design and build awesome projects. Each time I pass a club member in the hallway his or her face lights up as s/he describes the club's latest creation. Folks at school have noticed how engaging and empowering the LittleBits kits are and we are planning to raise funds to expand our LittleBits library to meet the demand as the number of students beating down the door to join the club grows. Thank you!”

Get Your Hands on Science!
Funded Jun 19, 2016Dear Donors,
Thank you for your generous donation. Your gift has made it possible for our class to enjoy a Lakeshore STEM bundle. This engaging collection of resources allows students to collaborate on a variety of hands-on interdisciplinary activities. Just recently, students read about Johnny Appleseed then collaborated to design and build the strongest possible cart to haul his harvest. Others were hard at work designing their own wind mills. Resources like these enrich our students and get them even more excited about learning. Thank you for making this possible!”

Funded Aug 28, 2016This summer, my former and upcoming students joined my Drop In Academy at the local library. As we worked together on a variety of inquiry-based science experiments, we brainstormed our dreams for the upcoming school year. It was there at the library with our sleeves pushed up and our heads huddled together over our projects that our vision of a parent-student-teacher yoga club was born.
We all know that we think more clearly and creatively when we are relaxed and focused. We also know that children and adults alike benefit from an organized effort to meet, regularly, to breathe, stretch, reach, and balance as we build our strength.
We are deeply grateful for your support of our intention to nourish our community through yoga.”

Funded Aug 21, 2015Thank you for helping me purchase five Chromebooks, ten pairs of headphones, and five splitters for my third-grade classroom. As a result of your generosity my students have much more frequent access to laptops and the myriad tools and resources that can be found online.
My students use the laptops on a daily basis to read independently on raz-kids during our rotational reading period, to conduct research, or to review and practice math concepts on Khan Academy. These are only a few examples of the many ways we make use of the Chromebooks you helped bring into our classroom. Thank you!”

We Love to Learn!
Funded Aug 31, 2015Thank you for your generous support. As a result of your donation, I was able to purchase much-needed texts for our classroom library. As our classroom library expands, young readers in my classroom are able to read on-level and high-interest books voraciously. Since reading widely and often is the best way to build proficiency, the addition to our library is a great boon for our class. Thank you!
My students want you to know that they are taking excellent care of our classroom library. They are keeping our books well-organized, keeping them in book baggies that protect them from wear and tear when they take them to and from school, and by consistently using our library checkout system. We all appreciate your support! Thank you!”

Mightier Mini-Lessons!
Funded Jul 16, 2015Thank you for helping me purchase a whiteboard for my third-grade classroom. The students and I use the whiteboard on a daily basis for a variety of reasons. During our rotational reading period, students use the whiteboard for word-work activities. We also use the whiteboard during mini-lessons to take notes or work-out a problem. Of course, we also use the whiteboard to display work we are very proud of.
Running a classroom in an under-resourced school is extremely expensive. Thank you so much for helping to offset those costs. It is very difficult to not spend my own money on basic supplies when I know that my students need those materials to carry out our day-to-day work. Your generosity is most appreciated.”

Ms. J.
Building our Literacy, Book by Book!
Funded Oct 17, 2014Thank you for your donation. As a result of your generosity, my students have access to a much larger variety of leveled non-fiction books. This makes an important difference in a classroom designed for English learners. All students, no matter what their level of proficiency in English, are empowered to research topics of interest while building their knowledge of content and further developing their proficiency in English.
My students literally cheered when they saw all the new boxes of books arrive. Each period, students borrow books to take home and read independently. Throughout the day students use these books to practice skills we are learning in class or to read independently after they have finished their classwork. In short, your contribution has provided our classroom with much needed resources for building language and literacy. Thank you.”
With gratitude,
Ms. J.
