Outdoor STEM Learning Update: Raising More than Beds
Funded Mar 2, 2024My students have absolutely loved using their raised beds to grown strawberries. This summer we actually grew more strawberries than we have ever had because of our new raised beds. The beds are high quality and the kids love investigating the parts of the plant after we read the book I Love Strawberries.
We were able to learn about the life cycle and the kids also were taught how to prune the plants of any dead leaves and how to properly water them while exploring their stages of development in the life cycle we were able to observe. We are grateful for your donations!”

Funded Apr 21, 2021This pandemic has created some of the most challenging times in education. Sponsoring our classroom's project for engaging, digital learning products from Teacher Pay Teacher allowed our kids to learn using games, projects, slideshows, and so many other exciting digital learning tasks. Learning virtually can be very challenging and keeping kids engaged is not easy. Your gift made this process of teaching virtually so much easier. We appreciate your kindness and generosity during one of the world's most unprecedented times.”

Funded Aug 5, 2020My students loved feeling connected through the wearing of their t-shirts, journaling, and letter writing. During this pandemic we have used these resources to feel connected and as a way to share our thoughts and feelings whether in person or learning virtually. Thank you for helping my students experience classroom community in the midst of a pandemic. These last few year s have been some of the most challenging times for teachers and students. People who have chosen, such as yourselves, to get involved through generous sponsorship truly have helped close the gap for our students.”

Funded May 5, 2020The support you provided to purchase these digital resources has really helped us during this hybrid model of instruction during the pandemic. We have been able to provide engaging digital lessons on days students are in and out of the classroom. We are about to embark on a two week period where students will be working entirely from home all fourteen days with no in person learning. These digital lessons will be more important than ever! The graphics have been engaging as well as the content that they need to gain the skills needed to impact their lives for the long haul. Our kids have loved the innovative opportunities we've been able to provide with these resources. These digital resources are not consumable, so your gift will keep on giving in the years to come. Thanks for making a positive impact on our diverse group of learners at our Title I school.”

Funded Mar 28, 2019Students have been thoroughly impacted by the funding of this project! It provided a variety of hands-on opportunities for them to follow the engineering design plan, test their theories, and developing new ideas they could improve upon. They loved writing in their journals which happen to come in the teacher's binder that I can reuse again and again. It has been such a fun unit to implement.
One way reading has changed is that we have been able to extend our vocabulary to include more science based vocabulary as them implement their design processes. Each time we conducted a portion of a STEM project, they wrote about their thoughts and ideas, and they labeled their scientific drawings. Reading and writing go hand in hand. This funding help make that connection.
The materials in this kit help motivate my students to read and write more. Sadly, science is not focused on as heavily at our level. This STEM kit was utilized after school and helped extend those basic reading, math, and writing skills beyond the normal day of instruction using science (STEM) as a catalyst to promote inquiry and discovery.
We are grateful for your investment!”

Funded Mar 14, 2012It is with great pleasure that I share with you the excitement and love of learning that you've helped create in our "Courtyard of Curiosity Club" due to your generous funding through DonorsChoose.org! With your donations, my students have been able to use posters and hands on models to learn about various living things in our outdoor learning environment (The Courtyard of Curiosity). We have also been able to create mini habitats and conduct science experiments. Upon using these materials in the classroom, they have developed a greater understanding of various plants and wildlife they've encountered in the real world within our schoolyard. They have learned about how our daily choices impact our environment and they have been inspired to recycle, reduce, and reuse in their daily lives because of the materials we were able to purchase through your giving.
Thank you again for your generous donation. Your thoughtfulness in choosing to change lives by supporting students is to be commended. Teachers need your support to help children learn and become successful, self-sufficient members of our global society while positively impacting our environment today and tomorrow. We know the depth of our learning experiences would not have been the same without your support.”

Funded Dec 19, 2010I can't thank you two enough for bringing these materials into our classroom and my students' homes. My students made wonderful academic connections daily in class when we utilized their Time for Kids and Weekly Reader magazine editions. I know they enjoyed sharing the stories and photos with their families at home. These magazines provided hours of information that connected my students to the world. The real world articles and photographs were phenomenal! You helped me connect our daily learning to learning in my students' homes and we are so grateful!
It's because of DonorChoose.org and caring individuals like you, we are bridging the gap between achievement and issues associated families that deal with poverty. I hope you will consider supporting this website in the future!”

Slates Make Math Great!
Funded Sep 11, 2009My students and I are so grateful for the funding you provided for our proposal, "Slates Make Math Great!" It's amazing what wipe-off boards and wipe-off clocks can be used for in math instruction! We have used the blank side for reviewing math facts and the grid side to create place value representations of our numbers. We even flipped the blank side over to create a background for our displays of multiplication arrays created using counters! Our clock boards are dual-sided for recording analog and digital times. The markers we were able to purchase for use with our wipe-off boards were also a great match for our elementary-aged students to use. I know that these boards will be utilized in other subject areas and even at afterschool events. They are so user friendly for all ages!
We appreciate your dedication to students and the instructional needs their teachers have before them. Hands-on learning is always much more fun! Thanks for conducting the "Limeades for Learning" promotion and partnering with DonorsChoose.org to fund our math project.”
