Our school is little neighborhood school in a low socioeconomic neighborhood. We have a large population of English language learners with the desire to conquer the world! Let me introduce you to a little boy who is 6, and the only person in his home that speaks English. Now this little boy loves his family, and loves his heritage, and he wants nothing more than to make his family proud. He knows that if he could read and write, and does really good in school, he could go to college and make money to help his family. As an English language learner, he struggles with reading, but he doesn't give up! He goes to the library before school, and stays in at recess to get extra help. His family has strong work values, and he knows that with hard work, he will succeed. He will be the first college graduate in his family. In order for him to achieve his goals, he needs to know the fundamentals of reading. Dr. Seus
