The way that my students learn sometimes looks different than the learning modalities used in the general education classroom. My students require more 1:1 work with their teacher, more small group differentiated instruction, a designated area to self-regulate, and office spaces to complete independent work without distractors. Room dividers would allow me to make this space possible. Clear visual boundaries in the classroom will capitalize on my students' visual strengths. I plan to use the room dividers to create three independent work stations that are free from distraction and one large group area for social engagement and whole-group tasks. I will also create one private calming space for students who are having a hard time controlling their bodies. In this calming space, my students will have access to weighted blankets, breathing balls, fidget toys, and other various coping tools. They will be able to maintain their privacy and dignity while working through their challenges. Breaking a large classroom into smaller areas will promote independence from my learners and help them to navigate through their daily schedule with increased ease.
