Let's Get Comfy and Learn
Funded Aug 9, 2022Thank you so much for contributing to my classroom and making my classroom a fun, engaging learning environment. With your help, I have been able to transform my classroom into a comfortable, inviting learning environment that students enjoy coming to and learning about history.
I set up my classroom in a team setting where students are encouraged to work together, learning collaboration and teamworking strategies that will help them be successful in the future. I have station based activities available for them to develop these skills as they learn about history. The comfortable bean bag chair and coffee table allowed me to complete my "reading and activity station" that kids are excited to get to use in my class.
Thank you again for your kind and generous contribution to my classroom. It is very much appreciated by myself and my students.”

Funded Nov 23, 2020Thank you very much for your kind and generous support of the ear buds. This project enabled us to put ear buds in the hands of every student this past year. This was an even more impactful project over the school year because we were unable to share items like this during the "Year of COVID". Since many of our students are not fortunate enough to be able to own their own earbuds/headphones, this was a way for us to level the playing field and make sure that each student could have the same type of learning opportunity.
Thank you again for your amazing thoughtfulness and generosity!”

Funded May 28, 2020Thank you for your kind and generous support in assisting with the creation of our STEAM Lab at our school. The snap circuits provide an opportunity for students to use their creativity while building. Unfortunately, with COVID, we were unable to fully realize the dream of our lab this year due to social distance requirements. However, we are looking forward to fully implementing these items next school year.
The transformation of the lab is complete and the students are excited for the upcoming school year with hopefully a return to some level of normalcy.
Thank you again for your support!”

Funded May 28, 2020Thank you so much for your kind, generous donation of materials to our middle school students. This year has been a year where many of the original plans went by the wayside as we figured a way to reach as many students, both virtually and in-person, as we could. When this project was created, our plan was to transform our computer lab into a STEAM Lab to offer students a hands-on learning opportunity. However, when the pandemic came about, we realized that we would not be able to reach as many students as originally intended.
We have been able to create two smaller sized classes to take advantage of the STEAM lab in a socially distanced way. When the students first came into the class and saw the materials that were able to be incorporated thanks to your donation, their eyes lit up. They were not used to having the opportunity to create and build things with their hands.
Students have used amazing engineering skills and creativity while working with the construction materials that were a part of the project that your donations went towards. Thank you again for your kind, generous donation.”

Funded Sep 16, 2020Thank you so much for your kind, generous donation to my classroom. This year has been a challenging year for all of our students. We have had to find ways to reach our students in an in-person setting and a virtual setting at different times of the year.
The interactive notebooks allowed us to find creative ways to have kids organize their materials and instructional information in fun, creative ways. There is a need to move away from the traditional "sit and get" type of instruction and find other ways to reach the students.
There have been positives that have come out of the need to make changes this year. One of those positives is that it has forced teachers to think outside of the box and some of the strategies and resources that we have used this year, we will keep many of these strategies. Thank you again for going out of your way to help my group of 8th grade students - it went a long way to help in this challenging year!”

Funded Aug 21, 2019Thank you so much for your generous donation towards the project for the classroom lighting. The lights have played a key role in creating a new type of atmosphere in my classroom. Our school is a sixty-five year old building that is extremely outdated in terms of infrastructure. The ceiling lights that are in my classroom give a buzzing noise and are super bright lights that make you feel like you are in a hospital.
The first day that I turned the soft lights on instead of using the ceiling lights, the students said that it felt like a completely new classroom. The great part about these lights is that they can change colors, so it is fun for the students when I change up the classroom colors on different days. They seem to take on different personalities when they see different colors. I also like to use the flashing lights option from time to time when students seem to be daydreaming during class!
I can't express how grateful I am for the generosity that has been shown to me on Donors Choose. The idea that complete strangers are willing to go out of their way to contribute to a teacher and classroom that they do not know is extremely humbling to me. I am currently trying to take a group of my History Bowl students to visit the state capitol which is about five hours away. This is a project that will provide us with the hotel rooms for the students since we would not be able to do the project without them due to the distance. The students will be touring the State Capitol as well as meeting with our local representatives. Again, thank you so much for the thoughtful gift you have given us.”

Funded Dec 31, 2018Thank you for the generous donation of Junior Scholastic magazines for my classroom. Students often are asked to read outdated magazines in their classrooms that often contain information that is no longer relevant to their lives. However, with the Junior Scholastic magazines, students have the ability to read articles designed for students their age that focus on topics that are directly related to their lives.
My classroom has been set up to create a welcoming environment that fosters an engaging place for them to learn. Students have alternative seating that is available to them for their learning needs. We use station based learning in my classroom and the Junior Scholastic magazines have allowed me to use these resources as a station.
Many different types of students have enjoyed the Junior Scholastic magazines. Most 8th graders do not keep up with current events on a regular basis so being able to provide them with monthly news articles is important. All students get excited when they find out that they will be doing current events.”

Let's Read About History in Comfort
Funded Aug 1, 2018The resources in my room that were received due to your generous donations have transformed many dynamics within my class. For one, the comfortable seating such as the bean bag chair has provided a fun and comfy learning environment for students to read in comfort. The standing light has made it possible to create a soft lighting atmosphere in the room so that we do not have to use the "hospital" lights that are commonly found in classrooms these days. The coffee table has completed the "living room" atmosphere which makes students feel like they are not just reading in a classroom, but more like they are reading in the comfort of their own homes.
One thing that this project has been able to do for me is to provide an inexpensive classroom reward for students to help raise the engagement level in my room. By participating in class, students can earn "team points". Each week, the team with the most points get to sit in the comfy seating for the following week. I also use the living room section as a reading station when we are rotating through stations in my classroom.
The next step for my classroom is to try and obtain more technology so I can create a 1-1 classroom since my school is not at this ratio. I will be putting a new project on to increase the number of IPADS and ACER Chromebooks in the future. Thank you so much for your kind generosity in making this happen.”

Our Technology Needs Protection and a Home
Funded May 8, 2018Thank you very much for the kind generosity that you have shown to my students for the technology aids your donation has provided. The Ipads that we had in class were not protected without the cases that we received as a result of your donation. These help provide peace of mind for our students that they can use all of the features of the Ipads without the threat of damage. The charging station for the Ipads helps ensure they are always full of battery charge when it is time to complete our station work in the class. The lightning fast charging cables are wonderful additions to our classroom because they provide a fast charge so that the Ipads are ready for all of the classes I have throughout the day.
The most exciting produce for my students is the cases for the Ipads. There have been numerous times where the students make a comment about how cool it is that the Ipads can stand upright thanks to the new cases we have. It does not seem like much, but it is something small like that that can get the students excited about doing their history work.
Many of my students like the new technology that is available in my classroom. However, the students who have shown an added level of excitement are the students who do not have readily accessible technology at home. These students view these new products as something special in their everyday lives while we may take them for granted on a regular basis. I can not thank you enough for making our school day brighter and lifting up these students that deserve a boost so much.”

Mr. Moody
