  • Maslow Before Bloom : Snacks for Better Thinking

    Funded Sep 12, 2022

Thank you so much for supporting the basic needs of my students. With a clean classroom, snacks, and personal hygiene taken care of, my students will be able to focus more on their academics.

My students and I are so grateful that you found our project worthwhile, and we can't wait to get our brains primed for learning.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Reilly

  • Non-Tech at Home Learning Kits

    Funded Aug 18, 2020

This project allowed my students to participate in activities at home without having to worry about worrying about if they had the necessary materials. Students also brought their non-tech learning kits to school with them when it was still necessary for students to have their own personal materials to use.

My students were super excited to have their own materials and still be able to do things like add illustrations to their writing without having them just be pencil drawings. Many students did not have supplies at home, and these non-tech kits allowed them to participate not only in class activities, but also enjoy using the art supplies for their own projects.”

  • Graphic Novels for Reluctant Readers

    Funded Jun 21, 2022

I want to thank you all for your generous donations that have made this project possible. Looking ahead to next year, I have many low readers, and I am positive that having more graphic novel options for students to choose will motivate more students to pick up a book and read. Thank you for helping my students become better readers by reading books they enjoy.”

  • 21st Century Seating for a 21st Century Classroom

    Funded Aug 24, 2017

Thank you so much for your generous donations. They have helped to make my classroom the room that everyone wants to be in. Teachers from all over the school often stop by for a chance to see flexible seating in action. My students can often be found sitting on the futon, at a high top table or on the floor working collaboratively. My students love the flexibility that these seating options offer. From the moment the boxes entered my classroom, my students were eager to help build and set up the furniture so that they could get to using it right away.

The new furniture is used daily in conjunction with yoga ball chairs, and yoga mats I was lucky enough to get funded last year to make for a truly flexible classroom. In preparation for our WONDER DAY presentations students from all across the 5th grade could be found in my room using the flexible seating options to create their research projects.

We can't wait to continue to add new flexible seating options to our classroom through future donations from generous donors like you! Thank you for helping our classroom become a more comfortable and modern place to learn.”

  • Yoga and Mindfulness in the Classroom

    Funded Aug 19, 2016

Thank you so much for your generous donations. My students and I are enjoying the ability to have alternative seating in the classroom. Each group of desks in my room has a yoga ball at it and students decide within their groups how to share the ball. Some groups have decided to give each student a day on the yoga ball, while others allot a certain amount of time for each student to sit on the yoga ball each day.

The yoga mats serve multiple purposes within my classroom. Students use them for mindfulness breaks in a corner of the classroom where there are calm down strategies and materials for students to re-center themselves. Students also use the yoga mats for small group and independent work around the room. During indoor recess, I even have a few students who "teach" yoga to their classmates!

When the materials arrived, the students were so excited to see what was in the 8 large boxes. As we unpacked them, students became more and more impatient to get things out and put together. I had volunteers that wanted to stay in from recess to blow up the yoga balls, and put the chairs together. Their excitement was infectious! I couldn't wait to get things put together either.

Next for my classroom, I am hoping to continue transforming my seating by adding high top tables with stools and benches as well as trying to find a sofa and coffee tables for students to work at. Thank you again for your generous donations, they have truly started the transformation of my classroom into a 21st century learning space.”

  • Menus and More - Differentiated Mathematics for the CCSS

    Funded Apr 28, 2015

Thank you so much for your generous donation to my math classroom. The teaching resources that your donation supplied have allowed me to further differentiate the math instruction in my classroom. In an urban school where the needs of my students are far ranging, having materials on had that are already differentiated makes my life much easier. This school year I have students that are above grade level, on grade level, one grade level below and more that two grade levels below the 5th grade. Keeping up with all of their needs and abilities can be extremely challenging, but these teacher resources have made life that much easier.

All of my students are thoroughly enjoying working on the math menus. The menus give them options of activities to complete at varying levels of difficulty. The nice thing about this is that the students don't even realize that they are doing work on different levels, they just think that they are completing fun activities. The Math menus have made center time in my classroom so much easier to manage. No longer do I need different colored folders for different groups of students. No longer do my students associate the color of their group with the ability to do math. I am differentiating without the students even knowing it!

The center mats that were included in your donation have also been great time savers. All I need to do is pull out a mat that relates to a skill that has been taught, copy the recording sheet and, Voila! The center is ready to go. The combined results of this donation have resulted in so much saved time for me already this school year. I look forward to continuing to use the resources you so graciously donated to provide me.”

    Mrs. Reilly

  • Inquiring Minds Want to Know ... Science

    Funded Sep 17, 2014

Thank you so much for your generosity. My students were so excited to receive the Super Science Magazines. The day they were delivered a student saw them on my desk and immediately asked if they could read one. The issue's main article was about the Science of football. The boys, especially, were intrigued. "Mrs. Reilly, did you know that there is Science involved in football? I didn't know that! It's so cool!", were some of the comments that greeted me after they finished reading.

Super Science has become our go to for up to date articles on Science. My students get so excited to go partner read and discuss magazine articles; every time they glance the magazines they ask if we are reading them. Super Science has also allowed me to incorporate small reading groups into my Science block which allows me to give each student more personalized attention. Super Science has definitely brought a new level of excitement for reading Science texts to my classroom.

Students now look forward to reading in Science and their test scores show it. They now perform better on non-fiction reading passages because they know how to use text features to help them comprehend what they are reading. Super Science allows me to use difficult texts and show students how to work their way through comprehending difficult material. The students don't even realize that the material is above their reading level be cause they are so engaged. I look forward to continuing to share the magazine with my students.”
