I am a new teacher to my campus. During my student teaching, one thing that stayed in my mind was hearing one of the students say "I don't have crayons at home." This was a reply they stated when I told them to clean up and they could finish coloring their drawing at home. My school is a Title One elementary school and a good portion of the students come from lower-income households. My little artists may have disadvantages, but they are some of the most hard working and creative students I have ever met. When I accepted my job to teach here, I knew I wanted to provide the students with the opportunity to make art using materials they had never used before! Funding these materials will give my artists this opportunity! The materials I have requested will be used in three to five lesson plans, each lesson will be focused on learning about art through literature and history; the different materials will be used by the students to make their art. Students will get to make fiber-based collages with the yarn and fabric pieces. Fourth graders will get to use the aluminum flashing to make Egyptian inspired relief paintings. I have requested materials to create mono-prints with all my students. A good majority of the art we will be making. The materials I am requesting require a good amount of drying time. To assist with the storage of artwork while its drying, I am requesting a drying rack. I encourage you to imagine the smiles on the faces of my little artists when they have the opportunity to make art using materials they have never used before. Your contribution will give my students the opportunity to embrace self-expression and individuality through art!
