LEGOs are a lifetime activity that are enjoyed by every age and every ability level. Specifically, for students in my classroom, LEGOs are a way to communicate what they are thinking and feeling when they may not be able to explain themselves with actions or words. Students will use the LEGO Community Starter Set, the Simple and Powered Machines Set, and the Creative LEGO Brick Set to work on their own projects during one lunch hour a week. Any student is welcome to come, eat their lunch, and work on their creation. During this time, students of all ability levels will be interacting side-by-side. Middle schoolers are all trying to figure out the world, whether they have Autism or not, so using LEGOs as a medium to create a Middle School LEGO club will be an effective way to show every student their similarities. LEGO club will be a safe space where students can take a break from the stress that school can bring. Students will have time to create what they want and express themselves alongside students of all ability levels.
