My 6th grade students spend about 1/3 of their instructional year exploring cells and the smallest units of life. Science should be hands on. This microscope will allow the class to explore cells together on the Smart Board and get first hand experience with how to use a microscope and the new world a microscope can show them. Starting microscope work early gives them the skills necessary to delve deeper into microscopic studies as they grow through building the necessary foundation early for microscope use and saving precious instructional time in later grades. Allowing these low income students the opportunity to travel within the units of life through microscopy gives these students an opportunity view their world differently without ever having to leave the classroom. By introducing 6th graders to microscopes and how to use them properly, a strong STEM foundation is being laid. This microscope will deepen students' understanding of life while giving opportunities to explore their world and science through technology.
