My middle school students are curious and question events and actions of people in our society. Their inquiry can be through a simple question presented to a trusted adult or sometimes evolve into a class discussion or activity. Overall, this project is designed to encourage participation of students by sharing their unique view. I am requesting books for my students' personal libraries at home where they can learn more about anti-racism and social justice actions that will expand their knowledge. This project will focus on students reading print books with themes of social justice and advocacy for underserved and marginalized groups and communities. As a result of reading these books, students will expand their understanding of today's challenges and issues, encourage activism and help reading comprehension and vocabulary. Books received will be given to the students to keep for their personal libraries in their homes. Students will apply what they have acquired from these books during class, school assembly discussions, cultural holiday celebrations and many other events in their lives.
