Orchestra Adventures- Let's Compose!
Funded Jun 10, 2009Since we have received the materials for this project, we have been busy using them in so many ways! The fifth grade is finishing an instrument family project this week after studying all of the instruments of the orchestra over the past three months. They have compared the different sizes, shapes, and materials of each family and learned to recognize each instrument's unique timbre. They love to play instrument Bingo now that they can tell the difference between all of the instrument sounds. Our Composer's Corner is a huge hit with all of our grades from Kindergarten to 5th! They think it is so cool to listen to Beethoven and Chopin! We are getting ready to start viewing the Nutcracker Ballet after studying Tchaikovsky last month. The 3rd grade began watching it today, and wouldn't you know that none of them wanted to go out to lunch when we turned it off! They all wanted to stay and watch it! :) The second grade has been practicing reading rhythms with the rhythm cards and the fourth grade has been working on their sight-singing skills with the melody cards. All of the materials are being put to such great use. I use something from this project in almost every single class. I am starting to wonder what I ever did without them! Thank you for making my job so much more satisfying. It makes such a difference to be able to teach my students using quality materials. They are more engaged and more excited than ever to learn. I can't wait to begin composing in the Spring! Your donations have brightened our days. Thank you for being a part of our education. Please know that your support has truly made a world of difference! ”

This classroom project was brought to life by Quincy Jones Musiq Consortium and 5 other donors.Building a Community Through Drumming
Funded Dec 31, 2008Because of your generous and heartfelt donation, the students will have the exciting opportunity to learn about and become part of a drum circle community. They will learn to set aside their differences and work through their communication problems by creating a musical work that is based on the rhythm of their inner self. They will understand that life is about so much more than just survival. It is about making friendships and learning to accept those around you. They will have the opportunity to lead as well as follow, experiencing the joy of both roles along the way. What an important, invaluable lesson for them to learn at this age. Thank you for making this possible for my students. I am forever grateful”
