Title I Reading works with students who need differentiated reading instruction and is focused on building literacy skills individually, in pairs, and in small groups. Groups are created based on many factors--grade, student needs, student behavior, dynamics of a group versus individual instruction, and academic needs. Reading specialists work with all grades--kindergarten through 4th grades. Reading groups are fluid and move as children progress or need extra developing their literacy skills. The majority of our students are Alaska Native. We live in rural Alaska where the cost of living is very high for the basic essentials such as your food, housing, gas, and utilities. Purchasing items at a lower cost is great, but the cost of shipping can be costly and impact decisions to purchase new items. Supplies can become outdated, very worn and over-used in an effort to use what we have.
