My class is currently filled with six tables and twenty six chairs. Squeezed in on the sidelines, we have three beanbags and a few colorfully painted wooden chairs, which my children love. This new project will enable us to ditch the traditional desks and chairs for new flexible seating. My students are active learners; they want to be engaged and moving, not stationary. However, there are times when we need to be seated in groups. The flexible seating options I have chosen for this project are the perfect balance of an active learning space and a traditional learning space. The first item I have chosen is a smaller whiteboard on a stand. This item doesn't seem like it fits in with flexible seating, but it will allow a group of students to work from the floor, with me right in the middle of them. It is perfect for small group learning on the carpet! While the students are on the carpet, they can bring the portable lap desks, which are suitable for writing in interactive notebooks, or working on their individually assigned Chromebooks. In order to bring some life to the table areas in my classroom, I have chosen stools, fidget bands for traditional chairs, and balance ball chairs. The students have been persuading me to transition to flexible seating since the beginning of the school year, and I know that they could truly benefit from the items included in the project. It would make our classroom a more efficiently set up space for movement and active learning. Please consider helping my class by supporting our quest for flexible seating. It would be an incredible gift to a community of 25 engaged scholars!
