I am hoping to make our classroom as welcoming and as engaging as possible. I would like my students to have different, quality seating options and other tools to be able to support their varied learning styles and needs. The Handwriting Sampler Rug I chose because of it's simple eye catching black and white motif, and the way it models correct letters, both in print and handwriting. The fact that the rug is rated class 1 in fire resistance was also very important. Students will not only get educational reinforcement with this rug, but will also use it to sit on for whole group and small group time, which is why this size rug was also a deciding factor. The ECR4Kids products (bean bags and cushions) I chose for flexible seating options because of their flexibility and positive reviews which make them seem like high quality options. These will be used during stations, but also during regular class time for those students that learn better while utilizing options besides a traditional desk and chair. I am using a cool color palette to encourage a calm and collected learning environment. The books I chose from AKJ Education are very specific, because not only will they match the level of my readers, but they are well written books that match the interests of the students I will have. I chose both fiction and non-fiction in hopes of reaching all kinds of readers. My 2nd grade class is at a Title I school, which is an amazing school with wonderful students that I am proud to be a part of, but needs lots of support. I have been very careful about the selection of items on my list, putting lots of thought into what would create an optimum environment for my students.
