Students Have the Right to Be Taught by Accomplished Teachers!
Funded May 24, 2019I was fortunate to participate in a National Board Certification support program led by UCLA Center X organization. I had chance to collaborate with other refined teachers and share practices through analysis and meaningful reflection. The UCLA Center X has designed a program that encouraged all the potential National Board Certification teachers to learn and grow together as professional educators. Our goal was to help each other reach the status of accomplished teacher, so that we can go back to our individual schools and help our diverse students become successful scholars.
I am still in the mid-point of the journey, but my commitment of becoming National Board Certified teacher has grown exceedingly since the first day. As an educator, I am persevering on this rigorous National Board Certification Process to become the accomplished educator. This is a nation-wide certification that recognizes the work of accomplished teachers and their contributions to student achievement. I truly want to obtain that status. As UCLA Center X stated "The UCLA NBPTS Project brings accomplished teaching to the forefront by supporting educators to achieve the highest level of teaching excellence", I am excited to be part of the journey.
The highlight of this program was the part when we were introduced to many strategies that can support student learning. We also used the same strategies to learn all the components that we have to pass to obtain the National Board Certification. One particular strategy is called the "Triple Check Agenda" created by Thinking Collaborative organization. This is where the leader or the teacher set up three agenda: Track 1=Strategies to support your learning here in this room; Track 2=Application for these strategies with adult groups, and tips for sharing them with others; Track 3=Application for these strategies in classrooms with students. After practicing the strategies with the teachers, I was able to take it back to my school for effective collaboration between staffs and students. I am now more purposeful when I prepare for my instructions or lessons, always thinking of my students first. I am so grateful to all the donors for making it possible for me to receive this immense support from a prestigious organization.”

This classroom project was brought to life by Google.org and 3 other donors.Animal Kingdom Exploration...Roarrrr!
Funded Apr 16, 2019On May 29th, 2019, my students had the chance to experience the LA Zoo like never before! Thanks to all the donors, they had a chance to attend a class and see a live presentation of animals in a private room and explore many animals in their different habitats. My students were able to experience, apply, and extend their science curriculum by going on this field trip to the LA Zoo and attending their "Zoo School" program.
We began our field trip by attending the Animal Up-Close Show in a private room and learned about animal behaviors and its different habitats. They also had chance to touch them and see some interesting animals such as the yellow bearded dragon lizard. We learned that they can live over 10 years in captivity if we take care of them right! Subsequently, we moved on to sight-seeing animal tour on our own. We started by visiting the small alligator pond and saw the lazy alligators bathing in the sun. Adjacent to the alligators, we saw the trumpeter swans swimming gracefully. Then the beautiful exotic colors of the flamingos attracted my inquisitive students. They also experienced chills while going through the diverse reptile exhibits. They were fascinated to see the yellow python coiled on a tree branch sticking out its' tongue at them; they were so glad to find out that pythons are not venomous. We walked through the zoo and saw the chimpanzees and apes playing around and made us laugh out loud. Then, my students were mesmerized to see the giant Komodo dragon lizard hiding behind a rock. For about two hours, we captured the different animals in its own habitats including zebras, lions, hippos, elephants, and koalas and more. Finally, we ended the field trip with a little recess time to enjoy the delicious Dippin' Dots ice cream!
We are so thankful to ALL the donors that made it possible for my students to touch, see, and explore the different animals today. My students were so elated to have had this wonderful opportunity to explore the Animal Kingdom today.....Roarrrr!”

Write and Publish for Success!
Funded Apr 23, 2019I want to thank all the donors for making an impact on my students' academic achievements through writing. My students are doing their daily journals in their computers and now they are able to print their writings and share them with others. In order to enhance their writing skills using the technology, I have started them in a typing class. Most of them finished memorizing all the keys on their keyboard. Therefore, most of my students are typing using both hands and they know where each letter keys are. They love this activity because they get to print their certificates after they finish their typing assessments.
Another fun activity that my students started is writing creative story and illustrating them using cliparts and other art forums online. They learned the functions of copying, cutting, and pasting it to their writing project. What is so amazing is that I don't need to motivate them at all. Seeing their wonderful finished work printed and ready to be viewed by others is the motivator for them! Now my class is buzzing with productive noises and they are truly having a great time honing their writing skills.
Next project is to write a nonfiction research paper on animals of their choice. As a part of this research project, our class is about to go on a field trip to the Los Angeles Zoo. They will use different resources to gather their information for their writing project including hands-on learning experience from the zoo. I am so excited to see their final work in few weeks. They will get to print them and share them to the class.
Thank you again for your generous donation and thank you for making an impact on my students!”
