    I know we're all tired of hearing it but we all know that this has been an incredibly challenging year. Education has been at the forefront like no other time in my recollection and teachers have been both praised and admonished.

  • Sharpened Pencils Are Like Unicorns

    It is the simplest of tools and yet without it class literally grinds to a halt. Every student has a cell phone but they all too often forget to bring a pencil to class. I have tried so many different approaches to getting my students to bring a pencil but I have found that, at the end of the day, it's just easier to give them a pencil. Done. I've thrown in the towel.

  • Calming Calamity Can Compel Creativity!!

    First of all let me thank you once again for helping my students with your generous donation. I want to let you know how things have been going since I received all of my supplies.

    One of the biggest impacts was with all of the anxiety and hyperactivity aides that I received. A majority of my students have issues that compel them to behave restlessly or aggressively in the classroom. Making all of my new toys available during class has greatly improved the classroom environment and therefore increased the learning that is going on each day. Fidget spinners have gotten a bad name of late because they have become a trend for every kid to play with. My students, however, truly need and respond so positively to these gadgets that I couldn't imagine my classroom without them.

    The other items that you helped to supply, the 2 Worksheet books, markers and colored paper has proved to be invaluable in supplementing my lessons with practical and interesting activities.

    Once again, thank you for helping out in my first year teaching in Clifton High School. My students and I are very appreciative.”

The activities found in "Writing Teachers Book of Lists" and "Writing Teachers Activity a Day" provide shorter lessons on fundamental grammar and writing topics. Once students have experienced some success, it is far easier to get them to continue working on longer more difficult writing tasks. Finally, the colored paper and markers are so that my students with limited writing skills can still express themselves through pictures. Adding artwork aids in comprehension and allows students who lack writing skills to excel in other ways.
