With donations, there are several ways the children will be able to use activities to integrate their sensory experiences in their play in their school day. The children can use the tactile fidgets and HowdaHug seating to engage in a calm learning environment. These “sensory tools” strengthen their physical movement and allows for sensory breaks for individual children in a group setting. Tools promote focus and concentration while developing self-regulation skills. For gross motor development, they will have opportunities to exercise their physical development by running, balancing and stomping with the stepping-stones, cannon launcher and tunnel. Manipulating sand, putty, foam, and paper materials will reinforce fine motor skills. And children will benefit from experiences and engaging in play investigating and understanding more about concepts of space and movement. Students will learn skills that are the foundation for developing academic concepts such as size, color, shape, numbers, and print. During exploration, children will begin to recognize and sort things based on similarities. Communication will be increased through play. While using "Emotion Stones", the children can engage in understanding feelings and emotions to help them deal with social situations during playtime. Having sensory-experiences readily available will allow children to participate and engage with their peers.
The preschool students would use the donations given to learn more about the world around them. As a teacher, I will set up the activities to be open-ended. No end product in mind. Children will investigate and explore materials with their senses. Children will play with materials, actions, and textures to build their creativity and problem-solving skills. The materials and tools provided will help children discover individual preference and a safe classroom community.
